I had breakfast with my biz group this morning at WE. As always, yummy food, fast, friendly service that recognized a biz mtg was happening and did not interrupt. We've also had a breakfast mtg at Dish and found it quite tasty and the service accommodating as well.

Don't forget "The Cafe" on Brent Street off East Broadway for Monday-Saturday breakfast!

Thanks, Marsha! I didn't even realize they served breakfast. Thought they were lunch only.

I've been there for breakfast, and was way underwhelmed. I agree with most here that Toast isn't on par with Wild Eggs, but IMO The Cafe is a significant step down even from Toast.

As chris m said, eggs are eggs.

However wild eggs is proof that biscuits and gravy can in fact be taken to another level.

Personally, I love the Frito Bandito. Sure, I could potentially make it at home, but it would probably cost me SO much more by the time I bought all the ingredients. And I wouldn't get one of those crack like Everything Muffins either!

Have you ever been to a Waffle House? ;)

Waffle House is the worst. I'd rather eat Domino's.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Verbena, Meridian Cafe, Wild Eggs, North End Cafe, Hillbilly Tea - take your pick.

I'm really liking what Hillbilly Tea is doing with breakfast, not the normal bacon and eggs.

I'll jump in and second The Cafe (I love the vegetarian strata but I'm not a veggie). I've been generally underwhelmed by Toast, but I do love Wild Eggs. We also like Shady Lane (great omelets), had a nice breakfast at Dish, and at the Grape Leaf (for breakfast with a Middle Eastern flair - lamb sausage - no pork). Verbena gets a nod, but we're rarely out that way in the morning.

Oh and for Sunday brunch, Selena's.

Jeff - I had a bad experience at Highland Morning. I ordered the Southwest Benedict (I may have the name sightly wrong) and a friend ordered an egg scramble with fresh tomatoes. The avocados were so hard on my benedict it was like biting into plastic and to be August, my friend had the most pathetic looking tomatoes (you know, the watery pick color of tomatoes in January). Service was spotty and while they ask you what type of coffee you want, refills come from whatever pot the servers was carrying.

On a positive note, the sauce on the benedict was great.

Hehe!

I have to admit, though, that when I'm traveling I get a kick out of a Waffle House visit- preferrably in the most rural exits possible. I love soaking in the 'ambience,' if you get my drift- Elvis Presley on the jukebox, truckers and local flotsam and jetsam.

There just seems to be a certain rawness to it, a humility that makes me smile.
