Does this mean I have to stop calling people from Europe "occidentals"?

It's okay as long as you do it only by occident.

I am sure no offense was intended. I dont care for the PC police very much myself, I just didn't see the pont in mentioning their ethnicity at all.

"Oriental" refers to rugs, pottery and lamps etc...Many Asians do find the term offensive when speaking about a human being.

Empress has a help wanted sign in the window as well. And for good reason. Last week I had my third disappointing lunch there in less than two years. Understaffed and slow as molasses. The owner (no rookie, she's been in the biz for twenty plus years!) actually parked a tray stacked with bowls of hot and sour soup on my table while she served the surrounding tables. Call ahead for takeout, but don't expect to enjoy a one-hour lunch at the Empress.
