That is on the cusp of being an oxymoron. Being a musician I prefer dead D Js.

I'll drink to that.

I'm falling for the schtick sad to say. Being a DJ and into seeing everything I can I'll probably end up there one night with a group of my friends. At least just to say that I did.

I know, I know baaaaaaaaaa I'm a sheep. But do I get extra points for recognizing it?

I'm in my 50s and you get no flak from me. It looks like a pretty conventional hangout for the demographic apart from the medical twist. It's at least as mainstream or moreso than the places I used to hang out at thirty or so years ago like The Beat Club, The Windmill & The South 40 - places my older friends just didn't get at all. As life goes, I don't get the aesthetic of The Recovery Room today, but I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about what's coming out of their kitchen.

I could do without the plastic cups and the schtick- I enjoy PBR, though.

I really wish Louisville would get a serious dance club. I've been nothing but dissapointed since I moved back. Bunch of meat markets peddling pop music, really. I simply don't bother anymore- the punk scene is much more interesting.

In Orlando, the DJ's I cavorted with were artists. Composers, really. Did thier own stuff in addition to mixing other's work. Icey, Baby Anne, Rabbit in the Moon, Rick West...

Good Times!

Somebody who has been there, please post! I'd love a questionable place to go dance, as long as there is a friggin' place to dance. That is far far away from the West End I mean 4th Street.

It's true I've seen him bust a move before!

I'll make sure to keep you all posted though how it is. Not sure when I'll make my way down there but I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
K-dog at Prime on wednesdays is a damn good DJ. He'll spin a lot of rap and hip-hop music but every now and then he gets into some old-school pop and funk. It's a pretty good time to be had.

A dance club, really? The new wife used to run clubs back in LA, and she has commented that we don't have a good dance club. I am a dancin' fool. I dance like nobody's watching!!! REagan, I am with you all the way, I need a dance floor with lots of room, I'll clear a small one.LOL Would love to hear any reviews on the dancing, if anyone goes!!! Love old-school funk, and disco. Yes, I said the "D" word, but I'll kick it up to 50's & 60's jam also. Anybody else remember Studebakers? Forget about the food, let's eat 'ludes, snort it up and dance!!! 8) AAAHHH the good ol' days.

We have a few around town that are artists (IMHO), like the OK DeeJays (Aaron Chadwell aka DJ Narwhal and Alex Bell aka DJ A. Bell), but there's just not a consistent place for them to perform, i.e, no good clubs. You can catch the good ones occasionally, especially at music festivals (the recent Halfway to Forecastle, for example).

The Pink Door in Douglas Loop was one of the better places to catch good DJs and good dancing before it closed. It is certainly something that's lacking around town. Recycled hip-hop and pop just doesn't cut it for me.

Zanzabar on Saturday nights has a really fun dance party. Glitter Titz are the djs (Garrett Crabtree and Jamie See Tai), their name is goofy, but they play a wide mix of stuff from dance, to rap, to pop. They start at 11pm I think.

Wednesdays at Mag Bar is a good dance night too, but it's a realllllly young crowd, really young. The night usually involves people dancing on the bar. Kinda fun, it gets really crowded though. The regular Weds dj there is Sleepy T. He plays a ton of dance music and not too much else, some times hip hop. He usually has guest djs with him though. I think that one is free before midnight and then 3 dollars after. He's also been djing at Cahoots on Mondays, but I haven't had a chance to check that one out.

I wish Main Street Lounge was still around, their dance parties were awesome. And you're right, Pink Door was cool too.

I personally don't like Sleepy T's style or Mag on wednesdays. It always gets too crowded and for some reason there always seems to be smoking inside.

Word.

Actually, I'll never know what's inside, seeing as though the most disturbing thing to me are the Miller and Budweiser neons outside -- informing all and sundry that corporate megaswill profits are being sent overseas, even as the patrons pay lip service to thinking local.

Not sure in this case but a neon beer sign in the window lets folks know that there is alcohol being served. Are there any micros that have neon? I would sure use it.

There is so much truth to this. I don't like it, but it's very true. Neon signs can be like metal detectors for finding booze. I'd prefer another vendor, but it is what it is when you're not at the top of everyone's radar without a little flag.

Off the top of my head I recall seeing Rogue, Brooklyn, Schlafly, and Boulder neons locally. However, a cheap "Beer" sign would get the point across just the same.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I was at Silver Dollar this evening and the Recovery Room is already out of business. Boarded up with the logo painted over. This place didn't last long.

I liked Silver Dollar. Great selection of bourbon, tasty pork barbecue sandwich, and great service from a bartender named Rebecca.
