The restaurant is named after Guy's father "Gary".

Ahhh... I've been waiting for someone to say so.

Anyone who has been in charge of booking a floor can sympathize with this. And I find it highly unlikely that the party was turned away and treated like liars - curse me if you will. Robin, it's your party, but it still smells like a fly-by. Maybe not in the vein of motives moved by you-know-who, but the "I'll show you" sentiment. To each their own, but I thought it might be worthy to speak out loud that this post doesn't make me question the aptitude of management and Gary's/Guy's/Greg's/Harold's Place.

There are a lot of good people at work there to make a good thing.

All true, Jackie. In all honesty, though, to me the OP did not have the stench of a fly-by but of someone who had a bad experience and was disappointed. As we all know, that can happen anywhere, and frankly, since Bill (and Alan and Harold) all post here, I thought this was as good a way as any for them to respond to a problem and either add more context or, if the complaint was valid, to make it right.

and - to add yet another "G" - and it was most likely Greg (Fearing), the manager that the OP spoke with!
I'll offer that, after 4 evenings since their opening, they've jumped in to the top five in L'ville for the wife and myself. And it's *all* because of the food. 3 of my 4 visits have been "Steak au Poivre", done to perfection every time. I've honestly not had a better steak at Ruth's, Ruby's or Mortons. Really, really good food.
Having said, the only things we've taken issue with have been service-related - in all cases a matter of insufficient staff to deal with the number of diners in a given area. That can be just a nuisance for a couple, but downright deadly for a group of 8 or more.
And, i have to say, last weekend we had our first "booking" conflict. I had spoken with Greg early in the week for a Sat. nite table for 4, but on arrival - no record....or so it seemed. Turns ou my res. had been jotted down in the margin of the page. Once found, all smiles & kisses....
So, even with these couple of foibles, it's still in our top 5 because....."it's all about the food!, stupid" :D
