I smoked some seitan (wheat Gluten) for vegan client once. It was awesome. I even served it to my buddy Shane Best- rib champion and maker of Pappy's BBQ sauce. He did not know what it was and thought it was the most tender pulled pork he had ever had.

I object to food that pretends to be what it isn't. And to folks who don't eat meat on principled grounds, but eat stuff that's made to look and taste like meat.

Object away. But seitan takes on the taste of the sauce that is in. In this case the client wanted to have a picnic and serve something that everyone could eat. It turned out really well and I will do it again if asked.

And I object to people who object to what I eat. I certainly don't care what other people eat.

Sorry. Let me rephrase. Anybody has the right to eat to eat and enjoy whatever they want. I just think it's silly, inconsistent, and calls into question the validity of one's vegetarian/vegan beliefs.

It's like if I refrained from adultery on principled grounds (which I do), but then had my wife dress up like and pretend to be the hot next-door-neighbor lady. It would call my fidelity into question.

I was not asked to make the seitan taste like pork. I was asked to serve smoked seitan. So there you go.

Sounds pretty tasty to me as well. The seitan would sieze, giving it a texture similar to fried, a personal fave.

I very much resent having seitan or tofu...or soylent green...or whatever it is you people are talking about associated with a topic bearing my name. Ya'll knock this sh** off...You wanna talk seitan ? Talk seitan when YOU become Da Man.  As long as I'M Da Man...homies ain't talkin' no seitan.
