BTW, we had a fabulous dessert. It was special offering with "fresh mozzarella" ice cream. Easily, in our top five favorite desserts. Whatever that was needs to be added to the permanent menu, pronto!

Just an update...

I talked with my sweetie about this and the fresh mozzarella ice cream was served atop some bread putting. It was "Da Bomb". Rich and creamy and just the right amount of sweetness.

I hadn't thought of it from that angle. Clearly this would irritate the chefs too!

BTW, y'all are doing good work back there!

We finally made it to Coals today for lunch, and they were slammed. Looked like only one server on plus help from management. She (the server) was not in good spirits either this is one time I can understand. She snapped at me when I asked where our credit card had been after waiting 10 or more minutes for it when we paid...wanted to make sure it hadn't been given to someone else. Alas the pizza was great and we will be back just hope they give the girl more help...and yes she still got a good tip.

Went for lunch Saturday with my 3 kids. Service was great and the pizza was more greater.

I asked the server about the Arancini (I think that's what it was called) and she said it was really awesome, told us she never thought she would like it but it was her favorite.

I figured they were picky kid friendly and they were. We will be back.

I've had Arancini at a few places around town, known for their Arancini, and Coal's version is by far my favorite.

I should have given an update on this sooner but the very next day I received a very nice pm from Madeline explaining the situation the day of my visit, she kindly offered a free app or dessert my next visit but I told her there was no need....we loved the pizza and could understand. I can't wait to go back and have been telling all my friends and family how good the pizza was.

As a proud energy consumer, I hereby endorse coal for cooking pizza, heating homes, making electricity, heating water, making steel, and operating antique, historically preserved locomotives. 8)

Does that mean you don't drive or use any type of gasoline either?

I came from Washington state where everything was supplied by hydroelectric power or natural gas. Moving to Kentucky it was an eye opener to realize how much the rest of the country's energy needs are supplied by coal. If it makes you feel better the coal we use is anthracite which burns cleaner than wood. Another positive fact is that the mining companies, who are interested in extracting anthracite coal, go into abandoned mines, extract the coal, and then reclaim the land by turning the land back to its natural state, Without money from these private companies many mines would be left open and in disrepair. It is a win-win for everyone.

But really.... the most important fact is that it makes a damn good pie!.

The amount of coal used is quite small, the oven also uses natural gas for a lot of the heat and just use the coal for the ultra high temperature and for flavor.

+1 It certainly makes a lot more sense than a lot of the other alternatives. Hydropower is good even some environmentalists don't like it because it inhibits the natural flow of rivers. Wind is good but very expensive and causes a lot of visual pollution. Solar also has many drawbacks. Coal it a lot more readily available and just as clean as oil based fuel sources. I personally think nuclear generation is a great source of electricity but because of environmental concerns the costs to build a new facility have gotten astronomical.

Coal also works extremely well as many of us have seen for cooking pizzas!
