Wonder who will move into the brewer spot at the BBC?

Lots of shifting around going on in the Kentuckiana beer scene. Hopefully we will all benefit from it.

I just hope they pay as much attention to the food aspect as they do the beer. We've always enjoyed the food at Cumberland but the "coziness" of the establishment just doesn't work for us on a regular basis. As for BBC, quite frankly we're a bit underwhelmed by the food...always have been. So with a polite nod to Roger, who's place fills the bill but is a bit out of the way for us, I'll just say it would be nice to enjoy some great beer and some great food in a location where one has a bit of "elbow" room.

If you haven't checked out the upstairs, I would, it might be more your style. It has much larger and taller tables than downstairs and they are not crammed together.

Justin,

Yeah, I was checking out the upstairs the last time we were in...nice stuff. Unfortunately when we're in that neck of the woods it's usually on a Saturday afternoon and I don't know that that section is open at that time. Don't get me wrong, we love Cumberland...great food, great beer...but we've usually got (at least) another couple in tow when we're down that way and it's pretty hit and miss to get a table there. Good idea on the upstairs though, I'll check it out next time.

""Wonder who will move into the brewer spot at the BBC?""

Toby Hunt has joined the BBC Brew team. He brewed at Main Street Brewing in Cincy formerly.

This almost comes to resemble an Abbott and Costello routine. Believe it or not, a few brewers remain where they were before the events of June and July, 2011. But the end result is going to be very good, once all the dust settles: New breweries, beers and blood.

Toby was also the young brewer tapped for the Oertel's 92 grand re-opening back in 1992. Oertel's never opened so we lost Toby to the Queen City for a few years. Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends!

When a brewer leaves brewery #1 and goes to brewery #2, who maintains ownership over the brew recipes the brewer has created at brewery #1?

I'd guess the brewery. I'm thinking David Pierce came up with most of the recipes they are using at BBC today and he is now at NABC.

Dave, correct me if i'm wrong.

In most cases the formulas belong to the brewery. A beer formula is like most recipes, change one item and it is a new formula. Different hop varieties make this an easy venture.

That said, most brewers are happy to leave the old behind and create new exciting beers.

Dave, correct me if i'm wrong.

I developed the core brands plus some 80 other in my 16 years with BBC. Every new brewer, when joining an existing brewery, brews the core house beers and adds his own.

Thanks David and Justin. That's how I thought it worked.
