my concern with a sticky is that it would be filled with page upon page of past dates/locations. You'd have to scroll to the end to find out where trucks were.

The best forum solution I can think of would be a new forum /sub forum where each owner could have either a sticky with their weekly locations or they could just create a weekly post saying where they would be...

I'm not sure what the plan for Lil Cheezer's "Louisville Street Food" Website is, but it would be great if the vendors banded together to make a website that kept track of where the different trucks are and where they are headed... with menus, reviews and links to this forum, of course.

A web forum isn't really the ideal way to monitor the location of food trucks, in my mind.

Will, would it help, if we go that route, if I commit to "scrub" the post (delete obsolete items) every day or two?

Yes, it would help alot... you'd also probably have to remove comments from customers and put them in their own thread.

I think the sticky is the best idea if you are willing to moderate it. I'd give it a try and see how it works.

That would probably help a lot, it would also help a lot if the trucks would post one posting with the entire weeks schedule.

Will said exactly what I was thinking- I don't think this software works for daily food truck listings. It will rapidly become unusable.

Guess I'm going to ( finally ) have to start using Facebook...

Robin,

While I don't feel the need to treat street food differently from other food establishments, it seem that you and others feel there is some big need. That said, please do not make it a permanent sticky as I think permanent stickies for non administrivia issues add clutter to the existing forum. I found all those stickies during Derby month a distraction, but could tolerate them since I knew they too would eventually pass.

I'll reluctantly vote for a separate forum, preferably toward the bottom of the index page. As others have mentioned, a vendor website or the various social networks seem better suited to the meeting objective.

In the end, I trust you will make the right decision.

I love the food truck concept and will spend $ when I see them out.

Can I get a sticky note to tell everyone when I put a new beer on tap or for Chef Matt to post specials? If not, I vote for a separate forum.

The problem with that is that I actually want HotBytes to be THE portal for local food and dining, and I'm not really interested in the Balkanization that inevitably occurs when people are wandering off to various blogs, social media and websites.

Yes, but only if you become as trendy as food trucks are right now. It's a new and growing industry. It's hot. I support it.

Frank question, David, and please don't take it as a personal reproach: Do you think it is reasonable for bricks-and-mortar places to drop a dime to the regulators on a nearby food truck that they see as competition? I'm getting a little sense of that here, and I'm honestly curious to know if I'm wrong.

Robin-
That is fine. Never ask for feed back if you don't like the answer or already have your mind made up.

No, I do not think it is reasonable. I do think it is reasonable to set-up a separate forum for posting current truck locations.

what does cool and trendy have to do with it? honest question.
people are working very hard to make good, fresh food and provide their services to many people in lots of areas.

also, i think youve made it pretty clear that youre not into the food truck 'thing', and many others have made it clear that they/we are. not having a sub-forum or sticky (or whatever medium used) to suit your disdain literally does nothing. whereas 'having' some informational tool promotes a lot of business and informs the masses that DO want to support these businesses and eat some good food. i respect your opinion and we are all entitled to our own, but the math here seems pretty simple, imho
