Leah I had that same argument at the Mayors office. I said "who had to have a meeting at the Mayors office about all the Redbox Movie Rental machines across from all the closed down Blockbuster Movie Rental locations?" This is almost exactly in-line with whats happening in the restaurant world except we are local, we create jobs and we pay sales tax revenue. Not just a robot box that requires a service tech once a week. Besides do you want me to open a restaurant right next to you and provide competition 7 days a week or can you just deal with my being close by twice a month?
Steve, I wasnt being hostile towards ya brother just in defense mode protecting my business. I realize there are some people out there that would rather win on a technicality but I like to win by straight knockout.
Matthew D: I disagree on the "less dining dollars" theory because the bulk of my business is done in places where there are no restaurants for 5-10 sq miles away. I don't provide any real competition to local restaurants. My late night bar business is done once most restaurants are closed 11p-2a. I would agree with that theory if I were operating during standard lunch/dinner hours and was sitting in an area highly populated with restaurants.
BillP: In my experience after this food truck nonsense, its much better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
The issue with Kaaren and San Diego Sandwich Works was that she didn't think she was doing anything wrong, just operating her business. I advised her to move around like we did and there would be less issues. Right now Louisville's holy trinity that cant be touched is Derby, Yum and 4th St. Leave those areas alone and Ill bet you dont get much resistance from the government.
