Sounds like we nned to start a WV foods topic! :D :D

I learned to make pepperoni rolls (married a WV native) and now my grown kids in NJ and CO ask me to make them when I visit. The big question is with or without cheese? :?

I bet if you go into Lotsa pasta they would be able to make one for you.

first of all, they have the right Italian bread for that kind of sandwich!

My godfather was Italian (all the men in my family are great cooks), and he would make meatballs and gravy, and lasagna, and his specialty was his sausage and peppers, and onions! All that was for a Sunday meal!

Buono Appetito!

I actually enjoy making them at home. My usual sounds most like the Newark at Melillo's. I guess being from NJ...

In New Albany, Federal Hill has a very good Italian sausage sandwich. It is cooked in sauce and is a high quality sausage simmered in really good sauce.

This thread is making me very hungry. I love sausage sandwiches.

I think you might be right! Maybe even an offline for the Mountaineers!

We've made the pepperoni rolls ourselves as well, and they were ok, but we need more practice. It was our only attempt at this point, and we haven't tried again. Hubby is Dough Boy, he calls me his Flour Girl. Ok, too much information. Anyway, we made ours without cheese, in keeping with the classic pepperoni roll, but I prefer cheese in. Also, I like long quartered strips of spicy pepperoni sticks as opposed to slices. Which do you prefer? Also, any WV folks out there familiar with Oliverio Peppers?? My dad was from Clarksburg, and that's how we at them. Pepperoni rolls with hot Oliverio peppers. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Ok, I'm getting hungry now too.

If in a hurry and in St Matt's, I concur w/Vince whole heartedly that Penn Station throws a good one out. Had my first one last night as I didn't have anything thawed out. Thanks for the thread now I have ideas for new places to go. I hope my Dr. doesn't read this forum.BD

Lonnies is good but a bit different to me as it comes with mustard, not tomato sauce, and hot peppers but he will make it for you sans mustard and grilled onions and peppers. Theater Square Deli on 4th has it on the menu.

I have 3 jars of Oliverio's peppers (2 hot, 1 mild) in my cubbard as we speak! When I go back to visit family, I stock up, along with a few jars of Penrose hot pickled sausages. Thems good eatin.

I prefer the sliced pepperoni, but certainly wouldn't turn down either. My folks always stop at Country Club Bakery in Fairmont to pick them up, but I honeslty prefer the ones from Foodland.

I always get jealous of my family members who can pick up a pepperoni roll in almost any convenient store, where as I have to labor over a mixer and oven to get one.

It's not fair.

I cook them cheese free, but then slice em open and fill em up with mozerella and Oliverios peppers to order. Maybe a quick second in the nuker to melt the cheese.

Now *I'M* hungry. :D
