Again correct me if I'm wrong on the matter. I may be repeating it,but want to make sure I've got it right. Thanks.

That is not my initial premise, no. But, for instance, I have heard stories from lady-friends about how...inhospitable...some kitchens can be to women. I have worked front-of-house before (years ago) and I think it was no big secret that waitstaff could be notoriously racist about who was seated in their section, etc. I was just wondering about others' thoughts/experiences.

I don't disagree, but it troubles me that people put the onus & judgment on those who use food stamps, regardless.

No, no no! I did not mean to imply that at all! I was thinking more about the institutional issues at play - for example, Carla G's discussion about transportation issues.

In no way do I think Robin is anything but fair/level-headed, I just wasn't sure if this topic was appropriate for this forum or should have gone in the "off-topic spiels," for example.

Anyway, I understand disagreeing with a point of view, but are you truly "alarmed" and "upset" that not everyone thinks the way you do? I know you're probably just being colorful, but when I hear those words I picture someone in their pajamas curled up on the floor sucking their thumb.

I am not alarmed nor am I upset that not everyone thinks the way I do. I am alarmed and upset that generally thoughtful people can become seemingly thoughtless and crass when it comes to political issues, particularly dealing with the poor. As for the thumb-sucking, well, I can assure you, I am typically the foul-mouthed one, but reign it in here out of respect for the mod and others.

Not a completely unreasonable stance given that I was in line at the grocery store behind someone dressed in fresh $150 sneakers, wearing $150 sunglasses, using an Iphone to plan a night on the town...all while spending food stamps on food that made a Burrito Supreme look like a farm-to plate, organic, multi-grain, colon busting, humus wrap stuffed with wilted field greens and imported stinky cheese sprinkled with fenel seed in comparison. Call me a radical, but I'm not sure what's so alarming about wanting to reel in in a bit.

Because you, in actuality, have no idea how much those sneakers costs, how much those sunglasses cost, how any of it was acquired, and know good and well that an iPhone can be acquired for cheap or free, depending on plan, what generation it is, if it was bought second-hand, etc. I am all for people eating better, but am not sure I want the government policing people's food choices simply b/c they are unlucky enough to be poor.

i still dont understand what the 'foodies & classism' title implies.
im broke as hell most of the time, pay my bills, like good food, shop at thrift stores AND whole foods, and work/have worked with/served people of all sorts of global cultures and ethnicities,
i really would like to understand the essence of what the OP is trying to say or ask
