hey justin, i think i remember you(i may be mistaken) saying in another thread that you frequented my patria.

I was never a fan of tongue, or really any offal, until the last couple of years. The combination pho at VK sparked somewhat of a change, aided by the sweetbreads at palermo.

But my patria changed my stance on tongue. Grab a tongue taco and throw on a little of that hot green salsa...straight fire. They usually dice it into small chunks, and it really tastes like a rich, fatty, tender pot roast. As a disclaimer, just once, they gave one big tongue chunk wrapped in the corn tortillas. It was still really good, but a bit more challenging.

I also like the tripe tacos there, which are very texturally interesting but are oribabkt for the more adventurous. The carnitas are still my favorite though.

Definitely one of my favorite places to eat in the city.

Forgive me for pushing the tongue on you.

Don't take it the wrong way; I have a girlfriend.

I don't really have a problem with offal in general, just don't care for tongue. I've had the tongue tacos at My Patria a few times, just can't justify ordering them when there are so many other meats I enjoy MUCH more. I love sweetbreads and find those at Jack's and Social far superior to Palermo. Social's are the best I've ever had, anywhere.

I second the grilled sweatbreads at Palermo as some of the best - I like them everywhere and have done them at home on occasion. Jack's, Corbett's are great - I need to try them at Social.

I love tongue tacos as well - La Rosita on Wesport Road does a fine tongue taco.

We were there for lunch yesterday at 2:00 PM. There were about 15 people in the place and about 20 when we left at 3:30. It has always struck us as a lunch place, probably because we do most of our dining on the weekends for late lunch/early supper. Had the Mofongo......outstanding! I'm safe from vampires for at least a week.
