"I think there was an ice cream place nearby, too. The Creamery? Great 'real' shakes!"

That was Cream Top Creamery and it was on the corner of Taylorsville and Bardstown -- right where the Subway is now.

A neat outdoor feature was a big neon Milk Shake on the corner of the building and a screen on the corner of the roof overlooking the street where different ads would be projected about every 15 seconds. Probably the area's first "animated" billboard.

As a 10-year old sitting in the car wondering how much longer it was going to take to get to my uncle's farm in Fern Creek, I was fascinated.

Thanks, Fred! Cream Top is right. I remember the sign, too. La Normandie was a few doors down on Bardstown not Taylorsville as I originally posted. :)
When in doubt, add more wine.

Yep, they had great fried chicken. There is a new real estate building, facade actually, going up there now. Hickory house was good, but they started having problems with it keeping it clean, as I remember.
