I stopped by briefly this morning to grab a croissant. The place is a class act and, in my view, will quickly win over many hearts. The Quebec couple were friendly and really seem like they know their stuff. Heck, my croissant was served in a carryout box with a ribbon on it. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be--delicious!

There were quite a few people coming and going. I spoke to several of them outside who were as impressed as I was. For the sceptics, enjoy your potato chips and sandwich. This place has Montreal class and will add pizaaz to the NuLu scene. It also seems like a "go to" type of place since it has such attractive offerings. Thus, it will not suffer from local workers not wanting to pay an extra buck or two for lunch.

I think Ghyslain, like the Village Anchor, probably has a target demographic in mind and will do well serving it without shedding too many tears about the rest.

I had exactly the opposite reaction. 24 oz of soup is 3 bowls at some places- typical soup serving is 8oz - 10oz. $10 for 24 oz of soup feeds two-three and is quite reasonable for high quality soup in my book.

Best of Luck to this new entry in NuLu. Anybody see the hours some place? I may need to head down for dinner some night or have Brian bring some home. Which building is it in?

How do I love Ghyslain? Let me count the ways! My boyfriend treated me to dinner and treats there tonight, and the experience was just so lovely. Seriously, I'm going to count the things I loved about it.

1) The food was super delicious as well as artfully presented. I had the California salad which was covered in the most beautiful dark red strawberries, big chunks of blue cheese, candied pecans, Asian pear slices, and green onions. My balsamic dressing on the side was even in a cute little ceramic cup - no excess plastic waste! His french dip was on this beautifully toasted baguette and the melted cheese slightly oozing out of the ends had a nice brown crispy edge. It was also super delicious (he let me taste it). The au jus was premium. He reports that the side of red roasted potatoes had the perfect amount of crispiness.
2) The staff/owners (I didn't inquire as to who was who) were friendly and sweet.
3) We got a free sample brought to our table! How can you not love that? I don't remember what it was called but it was one of the little desserts with a chocolate and coffee flavor. It was sublime. It was so good, in fact, that it caused me to decide to take my 2 chocolates home to eat later because I didn't want to rush so much deliciousness. It deserves savoring.
4) They have a water station so that you can help yourself to water. I just think that's very smart and I like being able to handle my water needs instead of feeling like I'm hassling some poor server for constant refills (my boyfriend calls me "Big Thirsty").
5) I like the decor from the paint colors on the wall to the silverware. Just lovely. I also like the patio.
6) The chocolates and desserts are beautiful works of art.

Is that enough reasons? I can't wait to bring all my girlfriends back there and watch them flip out over it all. I will be back many times.

After reading Laura's review, my husband and I went last night for dinner. We had an excellent meal! My husband had the french dip sandwich with french onion soup on the side. I had the Parisian sandwich with roasted potatoes on the side. Both of our meals were great. We each bought a gorgeous dessert to go (my husband got a key lime tart and swears it's the best he's ever had and I got a mini raspberry cheesecake). They were absolutely fantastic. We will definitely go back!

Anoosh and I strolled over to enjoy a fantastic cup of coffee (love the french press) and several very tasty treats last night. The outdoor seating was perfect, especially as you sit off of Market, and had a very peaceful feel. We shared the L'Opera & the KeyLime Tart. 2 major thumbs up on both. As they also sell to other restaurants, we will be using them in the future.
Friends had dinner earlier inside, and Kathie said she definitely thought the quality=price was right on. I look forward to another free hour to enjoy them again soon. :D
