:? Ya know it's really a sad commentary when we can speak of hiring another human-being simply because they are a "bargain". The fact that it there is some degree of truth in this statement makes it even more disturbing.

Expanding this discussion to the entire spectrum of employment, I can not recall a time in my 54 y.o life when I have seen a more disturbing set of employment practices...and just when I thought I'd seen it all I ran across this little ditty in the NYT titled: The Unemployed Need Not Apply

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/20/opinion/20sun2.html

and this article in the Huffington Post titled: Disturbing Job Ads: The Unemployed will Not be Considered

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/0 ... 00665.html

For those of you not inclined to follow these links, I will summarize by saying there is a growing trend among employers not to hire those who have had the misfortune of being unemployed.

That was interesting, and like the Times stated, almost sounds illegal. The old saying goes, "It is easier to find a job when you already have one", but if I had one, and was happy, I would not be looking. In TX, a few years ago, I took a job waiting tables just to be employed. I ended up moving around the restaurant and worked for the guy for a couple of years. ( I met the wife there :D ) Sure there are people always looking for that "dream job", or more money, whatever, it happens. But as a former hire/fire person I was always "picky" in my hiring practices, but did not discriminate against anyones former, or lack of, employment. In my case recently, I was asked to help a friend get their place going, not knowing it would be temporary, but after a few months, I wasn't needed anymore. Did not see that coming. I told an old co-worker that I never should have left. It wasn't about more money, or prestige, it was about doing a favor for a friend. I would do it again!!! But next time maybe I will take a LOA. Pregnancy leave?

Hurray, I just got home from an interview at Lynn's Paradise Cafe. They liked my skill set and want me to be their "hot prep" man, starting wednesday. Having been out of town for 20 yrs, I don't know much about them, but understand they have a good reputation and have some longevity. Did not even discuss $, but will negotiate upon hiring. As y'all know being unemployed is stressful, and I appreciate the comments and well wishers. I forsee no problems with carrying on their traditions, and making a fine employee. In closing, I would like to remind everyone not to judge too quickly in their hiring practices.

Congratulations! Lynn's is certainly an interesting restaurant if nothing else. They have some mournful items on the menu and it's really a fun place to take out of town guests to. Not a place where repeatedly go to all one that we enjoy an occasion. I'm sure they will keep you busy in the kitchen because the front of the house is always very busy.

Congrats! I always thought Lynn's would be a fun place to work...the employees are pretty colorful and so are the guests!
