Haven't dined there in years, but remember it as one of the more popular East End restaurants back in the '80's...sorry to see it go, but with so many other options in that area it's tough to remain competitive.

Yeah, I think all of us of a certain age remember those places. Cork and Cleaver was another in the same mold. I remember a spot on Breckinridge Lane where WW Cousins is now, and another on Shelbyville Road just short of Middletown, where Ernesto's resided for quite a time thereafter. Oh, yeah, and Bennigan's ...

I remember back in the early 1970s (this was in Atlanta) when TGI Fridays first opened on the north end (Roswell Road, maybe). On Thursday nights, at midnight, a guy would come out in a gorilla suit, dance around the bar and the horns would sound, announcing that it was FRIDAY (12:01 AM)! Hence: "Thank goodness it's FRIDAY."

My BFF and I spent a LOT of time there, we both dated guys who worked there. It was quite the hot spot in 1973-1974!

I have a million great memories (and even more I don't remember, haha) from both Fridays we had here. This will place a small hole in my soul...

Steak and Ale was in what is now WW Cousins on Breckinridge Sq. Cork and Clever was on Shelbyville Rd where Ernestos later lived.

Cork & Cleaver closed and then Chicken by George (Phyllis George) went in. Then two mexican restaurants, with the second one being Ernestos. I can't recall the name now.

Like many of you, I haven't been there in many moons, but I remember in the late 70's it being a place I loved going as a kid. The Saturday burger was what I always ordered. I thought it was cool because it had Canadian bacon on it. :D I also remember my mother liking the chicken fingers, which was something new at the time!

There was also a paper placemat on the tables that had the days of the week on it, in a rhyme, corresponding to what day you were born and how your personality was represented. I was Wednesday's child, full of woe, lol.
