Re: Majid's - talk about atmosphere!!

Actually, I wasn't being bitchy at all. In my earlier review I mentioned the age. I even gave up my seat when I arrived to some of the much older clientele because I felt guilty sitting when she was around 80 years old. So, I stand by saying that it would be hard for me to 'sit' at a bar when I was more concerned with older people standing around me. Thus the clientele mark. No need to be rude to me when my comment was based around a genuine concern for me.

i was just passing along what i was told over lunch. it doesn't make it less credible, because it was passed to me does it? (one is a well know attorney)
does putting a name make it more credible. i don't mean to start anything, but there are people on here, with a name, and their name is really not their real name. does that make them more credible when they post on here?

Annemarie, I think Marsha has done a great job of articulating the issues here, and frankly, I'm a little disappointed that you don't seem to understand it. Amy presented a critical review the right way, articulate and fair, speaking under her own name and clearly expressing what disappointed her. Your post didn't pass that test. You brought an anonymous snipe to the forum, and then sought to defend it by telling us that one of your sources is an attorney? Right.

We're always open to constructive criticism here, and no restaurant, not even one beloved by the "regulars," is exempt. But anonymous drive-by shootings are never appropriate.

Steve was out of line, and I've deleted his comment. Sorry, Amy.

As long as that's a grain of pure, organic, Strait-of-Magellan sea-salt. Because we're all such snobs...you know?

No worries Robin. I wasn't criticizing the clientele as people and am sorry it was taken that way. I just have old fashioned views about people my parents age standing. I have trouble relaxing and enjoying myself. So I spent half my time in the bar area being concerned mainly because I know how it physically hurts my mother to stand up for periods of time. I'm a bit too empathetic to my own demise.

I'm not sorry ...at all. As originally worded I took offense to the comment about the "clientele". No big deal.

We were able to experience Majid's Saturday night as well and found the food and drink to be fabulous. After introducing ourselves to Stephen D during our meal, he made sure that we met up with the Nancy D and her group as well Becky and Steve P. We enjoyed our memorable and fun post dinner cocktails and discussed the great time all the way back to La Grange.

I can understand Amy A's comment about the escalating median age of the diners as we jokingly asked our server if we needed to show our AARP cards. Other than that being a joke amongst my wife and I for the rest of the weekend it didn't tarnish our experience.

Nah, let it go. For the record, "clientele" is generic, but "bitchy" appeared to be aimed straight at Amy. The bartender's got to step in when attacks get personal.

Okay, round for the house, nothin' to see here ...

All this talk about age, and now I'm recalling past comments made about the age-factor at Jack's.

My gf and I ate there (at Jack's) last month and found it so-so. The "escalating age" context certainly didn't make use excited about the place. Hopefully, this won't become the norm at Majid's. FWIW, I know a number of younger folk excited for the place. Was having a drink at Bourbon's Bistro on Saturday and listed Majid's as the next place I want to visit. I'll have to make sure I keep myself to my word.

Even if there is an "escalating age" issue, Steve P tells me I would be well-served to listen to the elders in my life, so now I know where to find some replacement elders if the ones in my life get on my nerves!
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

What's the age cut-off off being un-hip? I'm gonna feel self conscious if I go to a trendy new place.

Hi Harold!!! - I couldn't remember you or your wife's (?) name (Kristy, Chrissy?), that's why I didn't mention it earlier  We went to HPL when we left Majid's and continued to celebrate...

Amy - I told Stephen you were there (I had read your post earlier in the week) and we hoped you would introduce yourself to him so we could all meet. Stephen knew that Steve & Harold were in the house, so "kinda" reserved that end of the bar (by my group). It would have been lovely to meet you, maybe when it gets warm - we love our patio dining, too! And I've already told hubby - "next time I'm just having lamb pops and wine" 8)...at the bar

We serve those that will have us, so as far as age discrimination goes... well, it will never cross our minds- it's just not proper hospitality, period.

I can tell you that we won't be doing body shots or Jagerbombs, but a Carpano Antica digestif could well be in your future.

As far as the clientele goes, expect to see fellow forumites, the mayor or local media types alongside the elders. We love throwing a party and having everybody mix, regardless of age.
