I participate in a number of online fora. These range from political, sports (basketball), wine/food, scuba to gardening. Some are quite contentious, while others such as Hotbytes fall closer to the other end of the spectrum..With a few egregious cases excepted, my experience has been that whenever an "active" member chooses to leave the site, or has that decision made for her/him, the forum losses something of value.
