Andrew, this is not aimed at you. I understand and accept that everyone has his or her own tastes, and mine are no more important than anyone else's (except, of course, to me. 8) )

But as a local food critic, it's my considered judgement based on many samplings that Cunningham's - River and downtown - are no longer on par with much of the competition when it comes to fried-fish sandwiches and rings. I've been consistently disappointed in visits over the last couple of years. A few years ago, I would have agreed 100 percent with your analysis, but it seems to me that they've been cutting corners, and it shows. (I'd say the same of Mike Linnig's, by the way.)

Actually, I don't disagree, and for a great fish sandwich in the area we like CQ. Unfortunately, if it's a weekend night - or if you've got a fish sandwich jones after 6pm and live around Prospect - then your choice is either a long wait at CQ, Cunninghams, or a 15 minute drive away! We try to avoid Creekside indoors, but outside on a nice night watching the boats navigate down the Creek can be very relaxing, and although it's gone downhill to a degree (or maybe others have passed it?) I thought enuf of it to put it on the list.

In the political spirit of agreement, while I agree with your opinion my rating remains just a tad higher..

We live in Hunting Creek and frankly drive to Frankfort Avenue or down River Road downtown many nights. When we stay in Prospect our options are:

CQ - best outdoor place in town. We tend to forget we can eat inside.
Bristol - blah blah blah....ate there last night.. it's ok
Blackstone Grill - on par with the Bristol
Burning Bush - Real good, better than Shiraz IMO.
Los Aztecos - Decent Tex Mex - as good as any other IMO
Bistro 42 ? - in the shopping center with Bristol - meh
Cunningham's - we want to like it....but alas we don't

I don't think of Corbett's as being in Prospect - we do eat there quite a bit. The lounge downstairs is where we like to go the most - less formal - less expensive bar menu items. Sort of the suburban version of Jack's.

For sushi we drive the 3 miles to Tokyo - that's my sushi home.

Prospect needs a Paul's or something similar more than anything else - no good foodie places to shop for bread, veggies. Meat we got covered at Butcher's Best.

Thanks for all the interesting responses. Donna and I are at Corbetts upstairs bar almost every Friday since it is about 5 minutes from her apt.and the food and the bartender Tommy are simply fantastic! The entire Corbett bunch, Dean, Gina, Troy, Nerm, Daisy etc. have been just great to us and they have become our Louisville family. Living in Prospect will not give us an urban dining experience, but sometimes the "burbs" can turn up a dining gem. I was just checking, because as I said, there are times you just want to stay close to home. Thanks again

I agree about The Bristol being "bleh", with only these exceptions....

1. Their spinach salad with the roasted garlic cloves.

2. Their hot, yeasty bread with butter.

And, thanks to Master Sommelier Scott Harper, they have a wine program that's well above the competition.

I would second Tea Station Chinese Bistro...I haven't tried Karem's Pub & Grille (next door to Tea Station), but have heard good things from those who've dined there...for dessert, walk down to Gelato Gilberto--excellent!

Paul's is on 22 at Herr Lane, about a block farther south than Tokyo.

We've been Prospect residents for 10 years. And for all 10 years we've also wondered about the restaurant situation here. We drive all over town for decent steaks, seafood, BBQ, or ethnic food -- we eat in Prospect only as a last resort. It's sad.

We've heard "explanations" about the high cost of Prospect locations, unfriendly business environment, yada-yada. The bottom line is that we STILL don't have a reasonable assortment of QUALITY restaurants here. WHY?

The reviews and opinions printed here of the existing restaurants exactly match our experiences. We're really tired of having to go to other areas of town for a decent dining experience. Can anyone explain why this situation continues?

OK - guess we have to be more specific. I'm bemoaning the lack of restaurants in the City of Prospect.
