Cottage Cafe in Middletown. Best cake and pies in town. Susan rocks it.
Culinary delight is in the palate of the indulger.

The Cheddar Box in Chenoweth Square, St. Matthews makes wonderful cakes. All made from scratch. Most are available by the slice if you want to sample.

I like cake but tend to shun it so I can continue my career without starting to look like a food critic, if you know what I mean. That said, I can certainly attest to the quality of Andrea's, Marsha's and Leah's cakes from personal experience. 8)

Curious question, though: No one has mentioned the Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen, which could be called the Homemade Ice Cream and Pie and Cake Kitchen. Aren't their cakes worthy? (We don't have to be mean, but I'm soliciting honest opinions here ... )

I have been lucky enough to eat many of Leah's cakes and they are delicious!! (Plus, if you're looking for a unique cake design than she's your person!!) I admit I'm biased since she's made my wedding cake and 2 of my Son's Bday cakes!

I have also had a slice of Lemon Sunshine cake by Marsha and it was very very good. And I'm glad Robin brought up Homemade Pie and Ice Cream Kitchen. Our Dr. bought us a huge chocolate cake with white icing for our Christmas party and it was quite tasty. (I love cake!)

Strangely, I haven't been a fan of the cake slices I've tried at Homemade, but the cupcakes are great! They do a yellow cake and white icing upside down cupcake that might fit the bill, it had a pretty good vanilla flavor. They also do a really good red velvet cupcake. The store close by us doesn't have these all the time, but glad I finally checked those out! The pies are still my preferred option there, but the red velvet cupcake is a close second..though last time we were there I tried the banana pudding...it was as good as my grandmother's! Now I'm gonna have to make a run by there this weekend...

I've had several people request my cupcakes for birthdays and such. I've been told that my cupcakes are very moist and would be happy to make vanilla cupcakes for your friend.

Why thank you, Robin. However, I bet you're thinking of the other Jessica H. I'm not sure that any of you have ever had my cupcakes, but I'll take a raincheck on that compliment when we have the cake-off!

We would be extremely happy (because we love cake!), to have the cake off at Brownings/Park Place....
I think it would be a great time,,,,, and with so many talented bakers in the area,,, just throwing that out there , if there is serious interest.
Have a great day! :D

Robin,

Maybe you were so incognito at a party that Jessica didn't know you were there. Isn't that what happened?

One of Susi's cakes ( a lemon dreamsicle cake with blueberries) will be featured in Courier-Journal next month, and she makes many a fine cake. Come by and try any one of them. Today was an Orange Cake, She also makes the best Hummingbird Cake in the world. Venture out to the east end and try a slice. My flour ess chocolate tort was also in the paper a couple of months ago and I make a killer pie. Cheers. Bill. Shady Lane Cafe.
PS. I also second Mary Carmel as I worked with her for years at the old Roppels Catering, at one time the only game in town for fine catering. Iced many a tiered wedding cake with her.
