When we re-opened the Seelbach, Roger Davis insisted on using real silverware for all table services. Needless to say, after a few months of clanging pocketbooks and backpacks leaving the employee entrance and the suitcases of guests leaving by the main door, he gave up one of his many grand ideas...

Aside from the inappropriate questioning, it seems really bad choice to put $25 spoons in those salt bowls. They are beautiful, as is the salt, but I guarantee this one won't be the last one to walk out of Mozz.

Just to be the devil's advocate, and I'm NOT saying it didn't happen, but I do find it a little odd to be using your first post on Hotbytes to complain about a restaurant, even if you praise a couple other restaurants in the same breath. I guess I just feel like you should build up a little more rapport before trashing a restaurant, especially a newer one.

I appreciate your approach, and that you made an effort to also say nice things about other establishments, I just am leery of new people with no track record on hotbytes saying negative things about a new restaurant. I'm also sensitive to competitors/haters posting untrue things about new places on the internet. It happened to us right at the beginning, so I always take these kind of things with a grain of salt. Having said that, if it's true, that sucks, and seems pretty inappropriate.

I'm sure in time if you stick around we will know what to expect from you, but please forgive me in the mean time if I wait to see that you're a real dude, and I encourage everyone to go to Mozz and have their own experience. It's very new, so who knows where the owners are mentally ;) I know I almost lost it the first few weeks we were in business

Jeremy, that's been my thought also many times when someone's first post is negative about a restaurant or even extremely positive about a new restaurant. However in this case because the rant was really about the circumstances caused by one of the owners and not about food or service I truly felt it was very valid. It was a situation he obviously couldn't go to the restaurants' management about since they were the problem so we really had no place else to turn.

Yes we certainly need to be skeptical of new posters when their posts seem off kilter but in this case I think any skepticism is misplaced.

I appreciate your response, Mark. Like I said, I'm not say this guys full of it, I'm just saying I still think we should reserve a little bit of judgement until we know him better. :D

:?

I've known the OP (Jeremy) for 7 years now, and he's the biggest 'foodie' friend I have...

...I've been a reader/poster here for a LONG time now, have had dinner with Robin, and have a great love/respect for all things Louisville food.

I've been wanting to check out Mozz since it opened, and was excited when Jeremy 'checked in' on Facebook from there, and was anxiously awaiting his review.

The next morning he let me know of the situation, and he was furious. He kept me up to date as it played out, before I finally convinced him if he wanted to vent, this was the place to do it. He's been lurking here for years, and is a LOCAVORE in every sense of the word. I advised him of the potential backlash being a newbie, and he took it upon himself to qualify his post w/ other experiences, as to not just drop in with slam and leave.

I can assure you his report was 100% honest and fair, and that he is indeed 100% real, and has no agenda other than to relay his experience to this forum.

I understand there are two sides to every story, and Hopefully, the other involved party will drop by and address this in due time, as I'm sure he's been made aware of this post by now...

Awesome. I haven't. I definitely think your endorsement is a step in the right direction. Chill, man, I'm not trying to debunk the guy, just suggesting we get to know him better before jumping to any conclusions. No need for the skeptical emoticon.

People dont seem as skeptical when someone's first post praises a restaurant. Personally, that seems more likely to be a lie.

Welcome to the forum, Jeremy! Thanks for the post and don't hesitate to post whatever strikes your fancy, it's a forum and the give and take is normal. I'll mosey down to Mozz and check it out. I'll make sure to take a picture of my salt spoon, watch and NY Times to verify everything was in order during my visit..

I think the entire point of this forum is to deliver an experience. This weird spoon altercation IS his experience. He padded it with positive experiences at other downtown restaurants. That was very nice of him. Especially after a weird in your face confrontation from a new space.
I personally am appreciative of his remarks on Z's. I keep waiting for an opp to eat there!

In the spirit of keeping it real...

(1) I heard a lot of things about Mozz before they opened. Those things were all positive but they also came from suspect people. I haven't been there and have no intention of going, but my general feeling is that they won't make it two years.

(2) Everyone knows that Dallas does good work. Nuff said.

(3) When it comes to the Z's concepts, I'm torn. While I know they put out good product, I am still unaccepting of the way their employees are treated. Mehrzad has earned his bad reputation in that respect. It's not so much an issue that Z's Fusion has undergone a chef change as it is questionable when the next change might occur. Stability is the key. We'll see.

And no... I have never worked for any of these restaurants, but we (industry people) do talk.

Welcome forumites, to hotbytes quiz time!

In the movie "My dinner with Robin", who would play the Wallace Shawn role to Robin's Andre Gregory?

Granted, I am one of those Fern Creek suburbanites, but this whole thing reeks of pretention. An owner petrified of losing his spoons (how exactly does it improve a meal to use a spoon rather than that boring old shaker?), advertising that the Jimmy Choo and Prada crowd are the preferred clientele (wearing expensive shoes doesn't necessarily qualify one as a card-carrying member of the hoi polloi).

*shrugs* Maybe the food IS good, but my Sauconys and I will venture elsewhere. :P
