Out of shape, tattooed servers wearing belly shirts and cut-off blue jean shorts. Our server (Amy Winehouse after a bender) told us she was moving really slow from doing Montezuma shots all night.

Raise the flag, boys. We got ourselves a new place to eat.

And if you want to act like a pejorative use of the word does not exist "that is your deal."

So what does white trash "simply mean"? What's the denotation for the term?

I'll have to say it bothered me enough to comment on it in my review. Not quite from the perspective you're taking, Justin, but on the basis of "Hillbilly" and even "Southern" being a somewhat affected shtick for downtown Louisville.

My avoidance of Hillbilly Tea has nothing to do with its name. It's because of its location. If it was located near my place of work, then I'd have no problem being a customer.

"White Trash". Still a derogative term. No matter which way you try and spin it.

It's funny. I've asked you a few questions, yet your responses keep coming back featuring the words "you" and "your."

Is this the first-grade "I'm rubber, you're glue" approach?

Or they could try the Brick House! Haven't heard much about it but it has the same atmosphere.

Actually, my husband was at Brick House last week and was surprised that the food was good.(Really) The guys really enjoyed the vibe and the couches, etc. 16 year boys would think it cool and ( I'm told) it's not as revealling as Hooters/Twisted Kilt.

I agree that the boys would really like something on Bardstown Road for the "scene" . That where we always head with out-of-town teens. If the weather is nice, the patio at Avalon could be great food for the ladies and good people-watching for the kids. Could be pricey though trying to feed two teen boys.

Not trying to spin it at all, just a term to describe how the place came across to me, just like Hillbilly is just a term.

Servers in belly shirts and cut off jean shorts in a place serving "Doublewide" sloppy joes, "Yard bird" chicken, PBR, and 40's of Miller High Life and MGD.

Call it what you want, I'm sticking with white-trashish. Maybe they are wanting to come across this way.

Nope, I just didn't think you really wanted an answer. Seemed kind of rhetorical to me.

Not to be a stickler, but ghetto DOES have a very strong racial and/or ethnic meaning. A ghetto isn't simply a poor area; it's an area of a city that belongs to a specific racial or ethnic group. The term comes from medieval European term for the area of a city where Jews were required to live...like the Warsaw ghetto in more modern times. More recently, the term referred to almost all black areas of cities, not just to poor areas of cities.

Maybe now the meaning of the word has changed. Language is certainly a constantly evolving thing. But, yes, in America it isn't unreasonable to say that ghetto is a racially charged term.

What is montezuma, this is all I could find when I googled it. Montezuma is a tiny town sitting on the Pacific Ocean on the Nicoya Peninsula

I'd like a little more explanation on this one.

I'd take 16 yr. olds interested in "the scene" to Bardstown Road. There are hundreds of places to eat. Pick whichever one looks interesting as you walk/drive by. If the weather is nice and the adult foodies would be ok with decent pub grub, Molly Malones, O'Sheas, Flannigans all have nice patios and good people watching. Ramsi's is a good call. After dinner you could walk around the corner and get a coffee at Heine Brothers and stroll a bit on Bardstown Road.

A few blocks south on Bardstown Road, check out Fleur de Lis Cafe or Cumberland Brewery next door...or Za's Pizza across the street. Again, do some easy strolling after dinner. Guitar Emporium and a place that specializes in video games etc.(can't remember the name) is a few doors down.

My other suggestion would be to eat at Cafe Lou Lou on Dundee and then let the kids check out Ear-X-tacy across the street. It's Louisville's coolest music store. Teenagers are always hanging around it. The parents can have a coffee at the other Heine Bros. location while the kids do their thing. Or go across the street to Dundee Tavern for a beer. It's a restaurant also, so the kids can come get you when they are done.
