I wish instead of Cafe Lou Lou you would have said August Moon. Nothing against Lou Lou, but you had a nice rhyme going.

How about Irish Rover? Pub grub is always good, and the weather is supposed to be cool enough that the stew would be wonderful.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Visited the Blind Pig shortly after it opened...would not recomend.

Stephens and Stephens is hands down my FAVORITE deli! I love their "West Side Challah",and their Mariel Hemmingway (lox, soooo good, and a huge serving). It's a great lunch choice, sadly limited seating.

Lot's of good suggestions. Seafood Connections is another fav, after reading this, I am dying to go tomorrow :).

I visited the Blind Pig a few weeks back. Great service and food. When anything first opens, there will be kinks. Not fair to evaluate them then.

I've visited the Blind Pig more times than I can count since they opened. I keep going back and recommending it to others. They have some real pros working over there.

But back to the original subject, where did you end up going? This furloughed government worker (me) went with her teacher-on-an-off-day husband to Joe Davola's. Excellent food and warm welcome as always. Veggie meatloaf sandwich was good, and I tried a new salad - the Santa Fe. As my husband remarked, it's neat to have a southwest salad with something other than a creamy dressing. They dress the salad with a punchy chili-lime vinaigrette. I'd recommend it if you like a bit of heat.

Where did I go? My companion and I got in the car and headed East to Limestone. I have had a horrible experience there in the recent past but I decided to give it another try. (Heck, I still eat at Mimosa after roaches in/near my food 3 separate occasions in a span of 15 years.) They have this "Starter Bar" which is really fantastic. All local produce salads and soups with this killer bourbon glazed bread pudding for dessert. Get this, for a mere 2 bucks more, you can add a protein like glazed salmon or a pretty decent burger. It's the best deal in town for lunch if you feel like "dining" instead of just eating. The tomato bisque was to die for and I still haven't met a plate of grits I didn't like. Our service was really good and the food was first rate. Limestone is officially back in my good graces.

Love Davola's. Sometimes I'll sneak over there after school and get sandwiches for dinner.

I guess I'll add one of my favorite lunch spots not yet mentioned and say El Rumbon, It's a food trailer that rotates between the parking lots of the Oxmoor Ford and Oxmoor Honda dealerships. Rey (the owner/chef) serves the best cuban sandwich I have ever put in my mouth, along with a variety of other Cuban, Mexican, and American dishes like lechon asada, steak burritos, and hand-battered fried chicken.

The atmosphere is nothing special (it's in a parking lot), but everything I've eaten there has been flat-out great, and the most expensive menu items are a mere $7. If you go, be sure to ask for the wonderful yucca fries or some of Rey's amazing rice instead of the pedestrian regular fries that accompany most of the entrees by default. Also, go hungry because a sandwich or burrito is really two meals worth of food. Fortunately, the leftovers are also delicious...

You probably should call ahead (502) 210-9087 to make sure where the trailer is before you go. As a one-man show, the place is sometimes unexpectedly closed for an hour or two if Rey has to step out for a bit.
