The first & last time I went to the Bardstown Rd store things were going pretty well, but I did not get nearly enough hot peppers on my hotdog. When I asked for a little bit more, I was given a very small plastic cup with just a few in it, and then charged $.89 to boot. That turned me off. I was the only person eating lunch at that time, and felt like they did not need to be turning customers off like that.

As a born and bred Chicagoan, I know you are only supposed to get two sport peppers and they are to be placed one inside each end. It is illegal to get any more than that, as that would interfere with the nature of the hot dog. Good Day Sir !

As a fellow Chicagoan I fully agree.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Can someone please explain to me the American fascination with hot dogs? I just don't get it. It seems to me that one has to pile stuff on, ie relish, ketchup, mustard, onions, peppers, chili, cheese, just so it tastes OK. The hot dog bun is another thing I just don't get. They smell stale and taste awful. When there is so much wonderful food options around why would any adult voluntarily choose to eat a hot dog.

Alison, in part it's a guilty pleasure, but quality extruded-pork products do make a difference in contrast with the industrially made supermarket dog. Lonnie's uses Vienna Beef from Chicago. Also, try Conez & Coneyz on Frankfort, where they have about four different kinds of hot dog-style sausage, even a vegan dog that's surprisingly persuasive if you dress it up enough.

ketchup, mustard, onions, peppers, chili, cheese VS. tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce

alison i would think that it is a cultural thing. I am Latina and am not a HUGE fan of hotdogs, actually i would NEVER buy one already made. (But we eat them at home sometimes, actually we just had some last night, with HOMEMADE chili might i add...   )

But i do buy tacos outside of my home, and i am willing to try tacos with different fillings and toppings, and i would pay 3 bucks for a taco..... so i think it is somewhat of a cultural thing......

I'm Half-German. My mother is full blooded German from Rüdesheim or Russheim. I forget the exact one. And to this day love German food including the Brats. However, anyone is welcome to my sauerkraut. NO thanks.

Yum...Spätzle.

And I too. (Suburbanites need not apply.)

As somebody born in Waukegan, the same city that spawned Jack Benny, I say youse guys don't know what you're talking about.

Next you're going to try to tell me that Portillo's and Superdawg don't count.

That and wait until next year.

Portillos and Superdawg are alright but not as good as Wolfy's and Flukey's, why they don't even have hot dog gum for desert.. not to mention the wonders of Greasyburgers in that trailer with no wheels or running water in the gas station at I think 23rd and Prarie, probably long gone alas..
