It is in a BBQ joint...but ya'll carry on. I'll leave it alone as I have no business hanging around this thread.

I had the BBQ tofu at Hillbilly Tea. I thought it was one of the better things on the menu. I also liked getting tofu at a place called Hillbilly Tea.

Other posters already answered, but I usually go for a vegetable plate. While the cornbread is not vegan, the sides make up for it. They also have salads and a couple of sandwiches that can be made vegan.

Part of what makes us return to restaurants is a good selection of vegan and non-vegan options. I want everyone I'm with to enjoy themselves, even if they would like meat. While I love the idea of all vegan restaurants, we have found in our travels that few do this well.

No I'm not but seeing as you are located in "My Own Little World" your response surprises me not. You're acting like I said every local BBQ place should stop serving meat, I am not advocating that at all.

Doesn't BBQ Place imply we serve meat?

Yes but it would be nice especially when i'm with all my coworkers or a group of friends that all want to go to a BBQ place to have an option that isnt 4 items off the "sides" menu.

Another vote for Ramsis. Not only do they have a lot of vegetarian dishes, they can make some things vegan upon request. There's something for everybody.

As already mentioned Sweet Surrender has several vegan options on our lunch menu, served 11am-2pm. But we also have several vegan desserts! We always have at least a couple of flavors of vegan cupcakes, and also make vegan cakes and cookies for special orders.

This weekend for instance, we have vegan charry pie, and cupcakes in the following flavors:
Coconut Raspberry
Chocolate Green Tea
Double Chocolate
Banana
Strawberry

I also recommend Ramsi's for a great sunday brunch. The brunch buffet has several vegan offerings including plantain french toast, black-bean cakes, vegan sausage, vegetable dumplings, a tofu scramble, biscuits and several more options besides. And of course it has all of the meat that you could enjoy as well, since you are not vegan.

Not being picky, but curious: How do they make french toast vegan? I think of eggs as a critical ingredient that would be difficult to replace without doing serious violence to the concept of french toast. ;)

There are several egg replacers on the market made from potato starch and beet powder with a couple of other ingredients. Just add warm water. It's like using egg whites.

Thanks for the info, Mike. From my personal standpoint, the egg white alone would be a poor substitute for the richness that egg yolk imparts, so even if the analogues make a good egg-white equivalent, I'd still be bereft. Just thinking out loud, I think I could handle being an ovo-lacto vegetarian, but giving up milk, butter, eggs and cheese would be even harder for me than giving up meat. I don't mind making animals work to feed me, as long as we don't treat them badly in the process. ;)

Anyway, I didn't mean to subject you to a sermon. ;) Thanks for the info, as I really was curious about vegan French toast.

Robin, they might use applesauce as well, I've seen that used in conjunction with other egg replacers. Whatever they use it's tasty, you should try it. I eat dairy as it is so I get french toast all over the place.
