I thought the other discussion was more about special requests for picky children/bringing in outside food. This is a different subject IMHO, but no biggie...I think people need to try to be more aware of their surroundings in general anyway, kid or no kid. ;)

It was the primary topic of the discussion, but morphed into this conversation later on in the thread.

You guys know I don't believe in censorship except when I just HAVE to.

All I'm saying here, really, is that all us childless types in the other thread thought we were just having harmless fun, but our fun was actually hurtful to some other people. I hate to see us hurting each other in this friendly forum, even inadvertently. "Kum-ba-ya ... "

So I think you hit the nail on the head about people in general, Jeremy, not just parents. Being aware of the people around you and choosing not to give offense is good etiquette in a restaurant - and in an online forum.

I just wish adults who want to act like children while watching sports would realize that the sports bar or neighborhood bar is the appropriate venue for such behavior. While I like sports as much as the next person, I don't want dinner at a "nice" place ruined by some overzealous UK fan at the bar. That's got to be worse than a three-year-old acting like a three-year-old, right?

I think a simple rule should be in place. Peace-disturbing sports behavior is acceptable at places that offer drink specials during sporting events. No special: no bad behavior. Special: go ahead and act like the game will actually impact your life, what's the harm?

 That "K" must have been a typo. I think you meant to use an "L" there. L-Yes.

I should have written UK/UL.

To think that fan stupidity inflicts one team's fans more than another is to think too highly of the group you identify with and too lowly of the other group.

I think that's fair. All teams have their contingent of overzealous/embarassing fans, and both UK and UL are probably pretty high on that list.

There is also a particular form of speech reserved for sports fans within a state ragging on each other's favorite teams. This speech is subject to a different analysis and interpretation than hate speech based on race, ethnic status, gender, sexual preference or disability. :D
