However, I live in Woodlawn Park subdivision, which is RIGHT THERE where they are doing the construction now. It is really dangerous, especially trying to get into/out of my subdivision, and the only way access to where I live is Westport Road. Now, they've got Hubbards Lane at Westport Road all torn up, too. And it extends all the way past Target.

Well, we are over there a lot ... between Target and St. Matthew's Episcopal and Kroger, we're around that neighborhood several times a week. I'm about sick of it, too, although all those destinations do have alternate routes at least.

I will add that I worked in the Kaden Tower many years ago and that was serviced by St. Matthews police as was GES when I worked there.

I'm not sure where the crazy St. Matthews/Louisville border cuts through there, but it should be noted that St. Matthews also contracts out police services to many of the smaller cities and commercial districts near its borders.

Even though I know it has police and other governmental arrangements, I have always taken "St. Matthews" as a term describing a loose neighborhood area. Granted, were I paying taxes to St. Matthews I'd probably care a little more about where the line is.

All this talk reminds me of the misery that is (many parts of) Ohio. Not really a fan of the small city system. Give me the consolidated city-county any day of the week.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Yeah, there's a doctoral dissertation in the city-county government history of Louisville, and I could probably write a lot of it without having to do library research, having covered that field for quite a while when I worked for the papers. Short answer is that most of the 100 small cities popped up after WWII and were facilitated by state laws that had never really envisioned suburban sprawl. They were so well-established that two merger efforts in the early '80s failed because both would have incorporated them into the metro. The merger referendum that made the current metro possible succeeded only because it largely left them alone, although it wouldn't surprise me to see that revisited in coming decades (not soon) if rising fuel prices and infrastructure costs inspire "flight" back to the city from a new kind of suburban decay. I think we're starting to see some very early signs of this already, but that may be my grad degree in Urban Affairs talkin' ...

Just got home from Taj Palace. Convenient location; turned out to be right about 3 miles from my house; didn't encounter any traffic going there or coming home. We ordered our "normal" Indian foods for comparison. The restaurant itself is big, but then so was India Palace. They brought out complimentary papadam, and we also had a "condiment tray" of three different chutneys. The tomato chutney was delicious, but too spicy for me. We ordered vegetable samosas for an appetizer-very light and fluffy. The regular nan was also fluffy and good. My daughter ordered chicken saag. She said it was very good (as good as Bombay, which is our standard); she said it had a pronounced paneer flavor, and the chicken was well-cooked and tender. I took a very small taste and it seemed to have a pretty big ginger flavor. My channa masala was good (but not as good as Bombay). It had a pronounced cinnamon flavor. I wrapped it up in the nan and ate it like a sandwich; I liked it better that way than just plain over rice. Overall, it was quite good; I like Bombay better, but for the convenience on a weekday, this place is on our list. Plus, after reading about it on LHB, I looked up the website and they had a coupon for buy one entree, get one free. So the total for all that food, plus mango juice and iced tea, was $23.23, plus tip.
