the deal on bagels at Dooley's

by Jennie Mulhall » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:34 pm

I went to grab a sandwich from Dooley's today & noticed lots of bags of day-old bagels for sale--$1.99 for 6--not a bad deal at all!

It does seem like they have some kinks to work out, but both of the people I dealt with--the gentleman who took my order & the gentleman taking the money--were very nice & personable.

I was not, however, blown away by the food. I had a vegetarian panini, potato salad & drink for $7.41--not worth it for a mediocre lunch. Nothing was bad, but just not very exciting. The sandwich was nowhere close to a panini & was a little dry. The potato salad was overpowered by the bacon in it. Don't get me wrong I love me some bacon, but you couldn't taste anything else.

I will, however, give them another try in a few weeks. I always did like the Pacific Sub they had--of course, that was not on huge menu board they had posted.

All in all, when I can get the delicious shish tawook sandwich from Safier for under $4, I doubt this one will make it into my regular rotation.

Dooley's

I guess I was lucky, but the tuna on everything bagel I got the other day had so much tuna on it that I had to keep pushing it back on the bagel. Also, they make their tuna Northeast style (?), which means NO DANG PICKLES OR PICKLE PRODUCTS OF ANY KIND--just the way I like it. Service was pretty fast, but the cashier was having major problems. However, she did apologize, but they do need to work out the kinks. My friend also loved her PB&J on rye bagel and jalopeno cheddar on cheese bagel.

Theater Square Deli

Carolyne Davis wrote:Now for a completely different story...Check out The Road Morocco that just opened Monday in The Henry Clay. Wine bar, coffe, tea, pastries and moroccan gifts including tangines. The owner is Eddie Maamry from Sullivan. It is really a neat place and they are super nice. The green tea with mint and orange water is awesome! I bought two of each pastry and loved them all!!! Godd luck to them!

I had posted the above reference to Road to Morocco back on May 24th. The lunch is a very recent addition and the menu looks interesting enough. I didn't notice a kitchen before and am curious as to whether or not it is actually made on the premise or brought in from somewhere else. Still, I love the place!
As to Dooley's, went for lunch yesterday. They have a lot of bugs to work out in staffing, service and organization. One very nice employee told me more help was soon to arrive! I was unimpressed with the food. $5.19 for a turkey wrap the had one piece of turkey, too many greens and no dressing, a dab of cream cheese and was very dry. Didn't include anything such as chips or pickle even!
Went to Theatre Square Deli today for lunch and had a very tasty buffalo chicken wrap in a tomato basil tortilla with celery and blue cheese, came with chips, pickle and drink for $5.99 Much better deal and tastier!

Thanks Carolyne for mentioning my deli. I'm glad you enjoyed the buffalo wrap. That was a special and from the response I've had, I am going to put that on the menu full time!

Please do put it on all the time! A coworker went the very next day and got it and loved it also! It would be even better with celery sticks and extra blue cheese for dipping on the side!

I had lunch today at Road to Morocco. Delish! Boyfriend and I both had the Road to Morocco special, which was pita-type bread stuffed with seasoned ground beef and grilled. It came with a tomato/cucumber/onion salad. Both were very good. For dessert I had baklava and boyfriend had some sort of pistachio pastry. We also both had iced tea, which was served with a little container of mint-flavored syrup. We sat at the bar and enjoyed very friendly and quick service, aside from the fact that it took a while to get the check. The whole thing came to around $18.

The place is literally right around the corner from where I work; it's too bad my last day is next week! I'll definitely be back, though.
