I thought I remembered they told me that at the store, but I couldn't swear to it in court.
Also, where is a good source for local, natural chicken?[/quote]
Adam Barr's meat CSA (Phoenix Hill), as mentioned, has the best chicken we've ever tasted. We get whole hens, which are fairly large, and I swear taste as good as poulet de Bresse eaten in Burgundy. Of course, I give my cooking skills part of the credit for that. 8) There are a number of good free-range chicken sources at both St. Matthews and Bardstown Road farmers' markets.

Stopped by Whole Foods today and checked on the lamb - they have local lamb from Four Hills Farm in Salvisa, KY. They said thats 20 or so miles from Louisville...I have not looked up the farm or location but have had the lamb - it's good. Note they also have New Zealand lamb so you have to pay attention to what you buy. They had chops, racks, and whole legs....I'm hungry now.

It's a little further than 20 miles - Salvisa is south of I-64 along Route 127, basically midway between Harrodsburg and Lawrenceburg - around 60 miles, but still Kentucky and I'd consider it "local."

Preferred Meats sources their chicken from Miller Amish Country Poultry - http://www.millerpoultry.com/ in Orland Indiana, so that would be semi-local.... since they are located near the Indiana/Michigan border.
