Having gone to more than my fair share of music festivals in the past 5 years, I have to say Churchill did well for an inaugural event. I've been to festivals that have been around for years that had more lackluster talent lineups than this one.
Having said that, I did not go to HullabaLOU. Unfortunately the issue of extreme heat kept me away as well. I appreciate their efforts at providing a massive air-conditioned tent, misting fans, and allowing access to the Clubhouse, however it wouldn't have been enough to allow me to participate. I have medical conditions and medications that make being out in the hot sun very dangerous.
I'm agreement with most everyone. I have no idea what other time of year they could possibly have it. There are festivals in September and October, and while it may put them up against school and football, "if you build it, they (in this case music fans) will come."
One of the most enjoyable music festivals I've attended in the last few years was in October in Tennessee, and like HullabaLOU it was a 3 day festival. The place was packed, and the weather was gorgeous!
Had some of my favorite acts been on the roster, I would have found some way to go to Churchill. I have to give them kudos for selecting a wide range of genres though. I think this first venture should attract more and bigger ticket acts in the future as word gets out.
