We call the Kroger on Bardstown Road by Wal-Mart the "ghetto" Kroger.

On a completely different note, I thought the Pad Thai at Thai Siam was delicious, and the Pad Thai from Sala Thai was the best I've ever had.

Buechel one lost me too. I have been to that one and it isnt bad. I sort of understand the other one considering the neighborhood across Brownsboro from Dirty Kroger is pretty rough but of course the one behind is pretty great. It's the line in the sand Kroger.

Perhaps on the "Offline Planner" board I can offer a tour of "rough neighborhoods, urban and rural" for a little perspective.

Oh yeah. Back when I was looking at houses a year ago, I stumbled across a house in that area. It was a nice size and cheap. I have a Metro Police friend that warned against that area and to top that, the realtor shook his head and said that it wasnt a good idea. It surprised me until I actually went back in there to look at the house. You get off Brownsboro and it changes dramatically. So what did I do, I moved to Old Louisville where the crime is even worse. ha! Strange that on all sides but the north, that neighborhood is surrounded by really nice neighborhoods.

I was bussed to DuVall in the 80's for middle school, I know bad neighborhoods. Especially being an unwelcomed white boy in the middle of carter home projects. Not fun. I had 3 pairs of shoes stolen off my feet. I won a contest for a "boombox" and they had to escort me to the bus early so that I wouldnt get robbed on the way out. A couple of teachers were assaulted. I wouldnt have called it a rough neighborhood though. I would called it dangerous. Rough is more like Shively and Valley Village. I agreed though that the dirty Kroger is no Kroghetto.

A more upscale Wal-Mart to open in Middletown

If it really is as good as you all say I'm in trouble since it couldn't be much closer to home.

Well, to quote myself I am, indeed, in trouble. I went with a friend tonite and had a great dinner. We started with the seafood soup which I would be happy to bathe in, then she had the fish ball curry (very good) and I had the Yum Talay which turned out to be a seafood salad. It was INSANE!
Perfect for a summer evening-a light meal but full of the complex Thai flavors I've been looking for. My only nitpicky comment would be about the Surimi (Grrrr), but for eleven bucks who cares?
I told the owner about this thread and he lit up with a big grin.
I will definately be coming back.
And then I hit dirty Kroger.

Excuse me! I live walking distance to "Dirty" Kroger and take GREAT offense to my neighborhood being called "Ghetto". Granted there are some rather less than fortunate individuals living in the area, and there are also very well to do individuals living in the area. There are also many, many individuals in Clifton Heights and Crescent Hill in the middle (Me, for one). Therefore, I prefer to think of the entire area as eclectic rather than ghetto. Thank you very much! Also, Dirty Kroger has a stock manager (Paul) that does his level best to order in any product that he can if requested. I asked for certain Ken's Salad Dressings and they have been in stock ever since! As I always tell my daughter, if you don't ask, the answer's no!

You are right, it is most certainly not indicative of the residents. Most likely wasn't held up by a resident. As probably wasn't Pat's Steakhouse who was robbed again today. Not sure of the details, a friend drove by, saw the action and called another friend at WHAS. Any one know the datails? Scuttlebut is the known fact that they have so much cash on had because of the no credit card thing. Maybe it's time to think that position over a bit!
