In Search of the $5 lunch

Aren't J. Gumbo's dishes mostly $5? Drink is extra, of course

Correct. I went to the location in J-town last week and the entree was around 5.50. Drinks are extra, but they do run a special every day that may include the entire thing for a lower price on certain dishes.

You can get a quesadilla or burrito with ky bison, chix, pork, or vegetables for $6.50 with beans, rice and a drink at el Mundo between 11:30 and 3.

A bit off topic but I remember when you could eat lunch at Casa Grisantis for under $5. That was a deal even then.

Fried Chicken, Wings, BBQ, Fried Fish, Fried Pork Chops. You can get all of those wth a couple of sides for $5-6. They've also got white beans and cornbread and even nanner puddin'.

Shah's Mongolian Grill off Eastern Pkwy. One of the best deals in the city. Choice of one meat plus noodles or rice, and all the veggies you want cooked right in front of you for $4.99. Drink not included, but its still a deal. My family loves that place!

Cumberland Brews runs a daily $5 lunch special and it is always great!
