To answer my own question, it looks like they are closed on Sundays.

Ben, tiny family run places can save substantially by using disposable service ware. It saves the initial investment in a collection of flatware, glassware and china, and it saves substantially on cleanup requirements. Page after page of sanitation inspection simply goes away when you don't have to wash and sanitize the dishes.

I'm sorry if you feel that this is so damaging to atmosphere that it diminishes the experience for you, but I would urge you to be understanding when it comes to the kind of very smally, family-operated ethnic eateries that most of us love. Frankly, I would consider it an unreasonable demand in these circumstances.

Robin: I've learned some things from your post and feel properly put in my place. :)

We are going to give it a try.

(But plastic and styrofoam still aren't my favorites.)

I hope I didn't sound all preachy and scolding, Benjamin. :) I did think it was important to make that clear, though. You'll find that a lot of very small ethnic places do something similar - I'm thinking of the new Mr Pollo on Klondike Lane, as another example. I agree with you that it's not very comfortable from the dining perspective. We really had a hard time carving quarter-chickens with the little plasticware on styro plates at Mr Pollo. But the food is so good, and the people so warm-hearted, that I thought understanding the cost and efficiency issues behind it might help you consider giving them a chance.

I've become a real fan of Little India. I enjoy their regular menu items a lot (especially the chicken masala). But I also like the lunch buffet because they always seem to offer an interesting vegetable dish that I've never tried before.

Their lunch buffet has amazing vegetable dishes. Green beans with coconut, stewed okra, wonderful lima beans, and excellent eggplant to name a few. I have blood sugar issues, and I can eat two plates of their lunch buffet veggie offerings with no adverse effects on my blood sugar (I skip the rice and naan however). These guys are really doing a great job, and they need more business in order to keep it all going.

Lunch buffet today, excellent cabbage, eggplant, & a pea & potato dish. FYI from an earlier post, they no longer use foam conatiners. Give these folks a try!

We finally went!

Thumbs up-! It's a good place with nice service. Real plates and stainless too. Even glass glasses.

The food was very flavorful. I like their veggie samosas a lot. They are a little spicier than at Shalimar. Yum. The lamb curry had complex flavor and tasted a bit of coconut. Also yum. Aloo gobi was also nice.

My family recommends Little India. We plan to go again.

Thanks everyone for the recommends.

I am way behind the curve, this little place is great. I went yesterday for lunch. The buffet has lots of vegetarian options. I fell hard for the Chicken Curry, probably as good as I've ever had, I had seconds and thirds! The buffet isn't as expansive as some others but what they have is very good. The gentleman manning the dining area was friendly and eager to talk about his food. He asked me to tell my friends :D

Another amazing lunch there today. They had a lemon flavored rice dish that was very unusual & flavorful. The eggplant on the buffet is some of the best I have had. There was also a nice crowd there today, so word must be getting out. If you have not tried this place, you are missing out for sure! The best Indian food in Louisville.

Yes, it has a very good lunch buffet. Compared to Shalimar the line is a lot faster. Nice service.

Had a nice soup a few days ago there--it was a dahl with lovely unusual spices.

lunch buffet is 11:30 -3:30 Tues - Friday, closed Monday. Open until 10p in the evening.

We had dinner there and DH thinks it's better than DakShin. I'd say close. Has virtually no ambiance, however. The food is like if your best friend was Indian and you were invited over for dinner when his mom was cooking. Home cooking in a very, very good way.

yum.

Between 6:30 and 7 pm tonight we were the only ones there.

Go! We can't let this place die.
