Like a good, innovative, even-the-rest-of-the-world-now-copies-us, American-style IPA? I agree 100%.

Thats a brave post informing the beer snobs on this forum that you have some American "swill" for sale at your place. Heaven forbid you should try to have a bit of something for everyone. Bud Light, how dare you!!!

Plenty of places seem plenty happy not having something on tap that I like. But that's okay. I just don't spend my money there.

This is great news. Good pizza as well as beer on tap. Should take some business away from some place across the street that has had a building trend of poor customer service!

So lay some of your wisdom on me Roger. American style IPA? A similar style to the American mega brews? Please help. I good micro brew lighter beer would be right in my wheelhouse for the summer.

Our local microbreweries offer lighter options, such as Cumberland's Cream Ale and Browning's Helles Lager. If you want something to take home, I suggest Bell's Lager of the Lakes.

Aside from the local options that Todd Pharris has in his post, there is also Bell's Oberon, Sam Adams Summer, Two Brothers Dog Days of Summer (a Dortmunder-style lager), Three Floyds Gumballhead (when it is actually in stock), Sierra Nevada Summerfest, Goose Island Summer ( a German-style Kolsch). Most microbrewies make a lighter bodied, clean tasting beer as a summer-time seasonal, but most of those are readily available.

IPA is a hoppy ale, usually on the strong side, fully suitable for debauchery in all types of weather. The last American megabrew that did anything remotely similar was Ballantine, a long, long time ago, and still without present day American-style IPA's hop punch.

You wrote "American style" brew but did not specify the actual beer style. I think I know what you meant, but it was a chance for me to note that many different styles of beer (like IPA) are also now considered "American style" because of the way our brewing culture has evolved. These are brewed by micros, but are not necessarily the same animal as the mass market golden liquid commonly called "beer" here in the States. Thankfully so, for me at least.

So, my assumption is that "American style" refers to the usual, highest-selling suspects, as quantified by the Beer Judge Certification Program:

1A. Lite American Lager ... Lite. Coors Light
1B. Standard American Lager ... Budweiser, Corona
1C. Premium American Lager ... MGB, Michelob

The question: Do microbreweries brew styles like these? Seldom the same, for a multitude of reasons not worth going into, but yes, micros brew lighter styles. Among them:

6A. Cream Ale
6B. Blonde Ale
6C. Kölsch
6D. American Wheat or Rye Beer

Some micros do light lagers, too. Brian Reymiller does a heck of a Helles (German-style golden lager) at Browning's Brewery.

Hi Marsha, I'm confused as well. I was off monday as well as Kelly O'shea. She pretty much keeps the place together and running great during the day. I inquired as to what went wrong on monday, it seems the C02 tank was empty and the Oaktimus draft "unfloated" itself which means it didn't have any CO2 pressure to pour. Very sorry for the confusion. Unfortunately, not every one can work our draft system as proficiently as others. Let me know via PM when you are thinking of coming in next and I'll buy you a beer. I'm at O'sheas every day but Sunday and Monday.

Speaking of the Oaktimus. It is awesome stuff, and we have a little left. The age adds a complexity you rarely find in an IPA style. It is a high ABV beer so we try to keep the higher gravity brew in 10 oz. pours.

All's well that drinks swell. I assure you we've all been through weird draft times.

I had the Gumball Head on tap at O'Shea's last week. That is one perfect summer beer. Currently not available in six packs in Kentucky so I'll be heading over to The Keg soon for that and some New Belgium 1554.

Brand, just saw this, as I have been in 14-hour-a-day work fog for the last three weeks (that Monday was my only day off in forever!). Thanks much for the explanation and the offer of a beer; I'll take you up on it some time!
