Speaking of meat...Tomorrow is week one of P-mans steak challenge. I bought two steaks to grill: one from Butchers Best and one from Kroger. The winner of this round will go up against Fresh Market. The winner of THAT round will go up against Whole Paycheck...etc, etc. I may even throw in a round against that "locavore" stuff. Bottom line, I WILL find out who sells the best steaks in town.

I think you've got the best in the first round!

Mark,
Please tell me you don't mean Kroger's!!!!???

Don't forget Burgers Market...Tim swears by them, it's the only place he'll buy steaks anymore. I still need to get up to Butcher's Best and see how it compares.

There were at least 5 local farms at the St. Matthews farmers market this morning. Prices were from $12-$20/lb for steaks.

If you happen to get there, look for the goat cheese guy, http://www.cheeseitalia.com/ We snagged a few kinds, but the Agri alle Erbe is incredibly good! If you don't like goat cheese, you should still check this stuff out, it's very mild.

Most were in the $12-$15 range, but one place had them as high as $20...I'll probably be there next weekend to pick up some rabbit so I'll take better notice of the offerings...

This would be really cool if you could go scientific with your test. You know, cook and eat the steaks without knowing where they come from.

Also, if you can swing it I'd suggest you try to get the supermarket steaks from the service counter, rather than packaged in styrofoam and plastic.

In an effort to level the playing field we'll be doing all NY strips...This week: wearing the white butchers paper and weighing in at 15.99 a pound.....Buuuuuutcher's Best (insert sound of crowd going wild) and in this corner also wearing the white butchers paper and weighing in at 9.99 a pound: from the service counter Krrrrrrrroger (insert sound of boooing crowd). OK steaks...it's a 12 bite fight, go to your corners and come out sizzling ("cut me Mick").

We're going to do this as "scientific" as possible...Results will be available for a small "pay per taste" fee
