Re: Pat's Steakhouse vs Stoney River

by Karen H » Tue Jun 15, 2010 12:55 am

We always make reservations when we know in advance that we are going to Stoney River. Great fillet! But I will have to say that we made the trip to DelFrisco's in February and now we're hooked.
:D Although their bathrooms are pretty small also......is that some sort of trend with older steak restaurants in Louisville????? :?

Megan Watts wrote:I have to agree that I didn't quite care for the ambience at Pat's. I felt very claustrophobic in the upstairs area. Maybe it was because I was newly pregnant and was still having a hard time with food. And their bathrooms are the size of coffins, which was a lot of fun as well. The steaks were decent, but I've eaten better at home. And we also didn't realize until we were outside that the server had taken a share of our change eventhough we had already left him his tip on the table (and we left over 15% and only had a party of 3). My husband was steaming by the time he realized that we had been jipped. We won't be going back.
On the other hand, we loved Stoney River. It is a louder place, and the wait was crazy, but the food was very good and the service was much better.

We're hooked on DelFrisco's too! Cathy, Vince and Miss Audry (owners) are the icing on the cake!
Giles makes a mean filet oscar, and my whole family LOVES the green phunque....

I started going to Pat's back when steaks everywhere were 16+ ounces. I order the Ladies Petit Filet ( 6 oz.). And I'm in love with the seasoned lima beans! In fact, there are times when only a wedge of the coldest crispiest lettuce (iceberg) in town with a creamy bleu cheese dressing cut a bit (table side by me) by a red wine vinaigrette served with the above mentioned filet and limas and a decent cocktail will do. And off I go to Pat's, passing along the way many restaurants excellent at a variety of things but not perhaps with the length of service and consistency of delivery as Pat's. Since the '80's I've found Pat's to be the backbone of consistency. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. I like the atmosphere. And I love being greeted by someone in the family at the door. The best filets I've found are off my own grill, from Butcher's Best, but if celebrating something I always think of going to Pat's first. CD

Okay, I just read what I wrote. It sounds like a baaaad commercial. I don't have time to express properly plus can't write in the humidity and the heat. But you get the idea, I'm a fan :) Hope everyone else is not behind the line much less a charbroiler. CD
