It's open today!

Can't miss it, a good-size tent with a grill, just off Preston on the right as you go out, across from Gold's Gym at the south end of the Indian Trail shopping center.

It's very much as described, and I would add that it's run by a very nice Mexican family - Pedro Cura and his sons - who speak fairly good English and are extremely welcoming and friendly. They have al pastor (pork) on the vertical spit and carne asada (beef) from a standard grill, all served in the standard Mexican style on doubled soft corn tacos topped with lots of onions and cilantro, a lime half, roasted potatoes and a little tub of creamy and VERY hot green chile salsa. DO NOT MISTAKE THIS FOR GUACAMOLE. :)

Tacos are $2 each, and a couple or three should fill you up.

Mr. Cura says he moves around from week to week, depending on where he arranges to set up his tent - he likes to stay on Preston, though, where he gets a lot of business from Mexican folks. He says most NorteAmericanos prefer Taco Bell, but I told him I thought we could find him a few exceptions around here.

Don't know just when he'll close today - it's pretty much a matter of how busy they are and when they run out of meat - but I'd guess they'll be there until 4 or so, anyway.

I have Señor Cura's E-mail address and will try to arrange to get information from him about where they're going to be each weekend, and will post it on the forum for a while.

Do they only serve taco's Robin? And they put potatoes on the tacos? That sounds good to me but never had them like that.

Are they good?

Ambiguous wording on my part, Brian. :P They throw a couple of roasted potatoes and the lime half in a corner of the box, and the little tub of salsa in another corner. The tacos are topped with meat, onions (grilled chunks) and cilantro.

Yes, they're good. And the two tacos seem to be the only thing on the English-language menu, although I expect someone who's more fluent in Spanish than I am ought to check that out.

:) I'm close to Preston where I work so I was curius if they were good, I figured they probably were since you said you were going to track them for a few weeks but you sure didn't say good, bad or indifferent

How would have they stacked up in the Taco piece?

Oh, are they set up legally as a vendor? I'm assuming so since they are in view at a busy public place.

Brian, these were the soft, authentic Mexican tacos. Certainly comparable with El Zarape (and most of the other Latino taquerias around town like La Tapatia, El Paso, etc.). Not like Taco Hell or Taco Tico.

I didn't feel comfortable quizzing them about licensure, but as you said, it's operating with a high profile, not under the radar, and Mr. Sura strikes me as a very professional gentleman. I certainly felt no qualms at all about eating their tacos, and I'm fine almost 24 hours later. :)
