Unfortunately we have lost so many great restaurants and hopefully we don't lose any more. Some of the one's I miss the most are;

Mellilo's
Primo
Club Grotto
Cafe Metro
Azalea
Ferd's

Too many great meals and too many happy memories.

I too miss Melillo's...for the homey atmosphere, friendly people and wonderful Italian food (massive portions). I swear the anti-pasta platter I got there was the best!!!

I second Nik's also...I really miss them for the great Greek salad I would get there. They were close to work...so it was a convenient lunch spot, and they had the best tabouleh.

I also miss Tacos Toreados. The J-Town location is still open and they serve some pretty tasty tacos. However, Juan DeLeon, and his father "Juanito" are no longer affiliated with that location...and IMO, Juanito makes the absolute best tacos de lengue in Louisville. Juan, if you are reading this, please establish another location so I can get my lengue fix. Thanks.

I also miss Zantigo's...but they've been gone for 20+ years.

Zephyr Cove and Dietrich's of a while ago; Primo and pre-changes Azalea, of more recent departure.

Dang! I can't believe I didn't think of Red Pepper. Make mine "Primo, Red Pepper and Melillo's."

By the way, didn't the OP ask about restaurants closed in the last two years? It seems we're getting a few ancient-history replies here. It's okay, but I'm just sayin' ...

Absolutely. I should have clarified that. It almost seems that Azalea's management decided to commit corporate suicide at the end, changing everything that pleased its core audience in the hope of attracting a new audience from heaven knows where.

It's worth noting that Chef John Varanese was at Azalea during its peak of popularity, and now Varanese is very popular ... I wouldn't say the two restaurants are clones by any means, but certainly there are some basic similarities in style and cuisine.

My bad about bringing in ancient history. However, there has been nothing that has closed within the past two years that leaves an unfulfilled hole in my culinary desires.

No worries, Gayle ... I wasn't even aiming in your direction. :D (Actually I wasn't aiming at anyone, I was just sayin', but I was looking at more recent posts in the thread when I posted that.)

Primo (loved their pizza)

Mazzoni's (i loved going in there for a rolled oyster and a High Life. only sat at the "Gripers Table" once though)

Baja Fresh (chain, yeah but they were superior to Q-doba IMO)

Cunningham's on 5th and Breckinridge... I will never forget going in there the last time. I just got dumped, hadn't eaten in well over 24 hours, had no clue where to go so I went to Cunninngham's my dad's favorite haunt in an emotional mess and had the fish sandwich while watching General Hospital with the wait staff. It was at like 3 pm. No one was there. Then two days later the place burned to the ground. :(

Zephyr Cove (sp?) - If a place these days had the soul/jazz/funk nights like they had they would be flooded with hipsters aka money.

The New China Inn on Goose Creek Road... I think it is now a bank or something. It is right next to what is now Wick's. My family used to go in there all the time. The owner's treated us like family. It was great and the food was awesome. I miss feeling welcome in a restaurant like that.

In a way, I do miss Red Pepper, but I do think that Jasmine does a pretty good job of authentic Schezwan food. So, somewhat sadly, I can live without Red Pepper.

Like Annemarie, I, too, miss Rubino's, but I finally figured out how to make an aceptable liguine and white clam dish. :D

The places that I really miss are those places that have no similar cuisine step up to replace them. If I ever move, I will only move to a place that has at least three Greek restaurant as insurance against closing!

Yeah, I did specify the last 2 years but older stuff is fine too. What I'm even more interested in are the posts to WHY you miss them not just which ones you miss.
