The Chef's Table in Old Louisville. Four months before the paychecks started bouncing and the vendors wouldn't deliver anymore.

robin, about 3 weeks or less?
what a shame, investing all that money and to have to close up shop so quickly.

No, he was there for three or four months. It's still sad, though. Rafael was a real gentleman and raconteur. Eating in there and being entertained by his conversation was half the fun.

That place seems to be a restaurant-killer ... every one that's been in there either died or moved on. Maybe it's just too little ... four tables, and he was telling us that the city wouldn't let him add more because there's only one restroom. (Based on his longer story, I actually wondered if a plumbing inspector was trying to shake him down - I think of Lonnie's and Blue Dog as having significantly more tables with only one restroom - but what do I know?)

The dog has 2, just one not as accessible. It's on the other side of the doorway.

I forget the number of seats you can have with just one bathroom. I think it is either 7 or 12.

I suspect that once you get the doors open (certificate of occupancy after initial inspection) you'll be fine if you add some more....unless the city has reason to check you out again. Which could explain places that don't seem to be abiding by that rule. There could also be grandfathering allowed.

You need at least one restroom with up to 12 seats. After that you need two restrooms but can serve any number of people with just two. I have always thought that odd. You are only required to have two but could possibly seat 500? Government rules never make sense! If I remember correctly, the seating limit is for indoor seating....you can seat however many outside.....a little creativity, maybe cheaper than adding a restroom??? LOL!

That is not quite right...If you have more than 100 seats...you have to have a"two holes" in men's as well as womens washrooms. If you have over 150 seats you have to have three...the number does go up with the seats.

Greek Paradise and Bourbon Bros BBQ don't really count because they did open up in other locations. How about Fusion? Danielle's? Just two that came right to mind....

It was a long-time favorite for me, too. We ran into Richard Whittaker, the chef, a few times in North Palm Beach, where my mom lived for a while, years after they left here.

It's worth noting, though, that Parisian Pantry was not short-lived. It was there for five years at least, maybe 10, in the '80s. It was the string of restaurants that followed its departure that gave that corner its reputation as a "haunted" location - allegedly because of an angry resident ghost who disapproved of the removal of an upstairs wall. I sometimes wonder if Cafe 360, which seems to have staying power, put the wall back.
