Judging criteria

by Robin Garr » Fri Jan 16, 2009 5:37 pm

We will use judging criteria from Iron Chef America, as follows. Each of the three judges will rate each plate independently; I will then confer with the judges (including myself) and record the total in each category and overall total for each plate.

This is a good balance. It places priority on taste, as it should, but also takes into consideration plating and creativity.

"Each chef can be awarded up to 20 points by each judge; consisting of up to 10 points for taste, up to 5 points for plating (the appearance of their presentation), and up to 5 points for the originality of their dishes."

Hi All! I just called Ellen Gill and she has been out of pocket due to running her restaurant and having a sick child. She is one who does not go online much at all so I wanted to make sure she can do this throw down and she said YES! She will get online and call or email Deb Hall this evening. Again, Ellen is a friend and I DO NOT handle her PR or Science Hill. Thanks and look forward to a fun and delicious night!!!! :D

Hey all! First time on and am hoping to be a contender for the throw down! My great friend Caroline keeps me posted on all exciting events as I am not computer savvy. I've e-mailed Deb or so I think asking if I have met the deadline, if not I think this is a wonderful event and hope to see and hear of more of these fun and creative events in the near future!

Ellen,

So sorry but we had to close the entries last Sunday so we could get the marketing materials printed, etc. I'm disappointed that you won't be able to compete- I'm sure you make a mean Shrimp & Grits. Given the interest, the event is likely to be repeated next year, so maybe you can enter then.

All the best-

Hey guys,
Will there be tickets on sale the day of the event? I want to go to this event real bad, and I don't want to miss out. If you have to get your tickets before the 9th, where will I get them? So far, the event is scheduled for MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH, AT 6:30 PM AT CAPTAINS QUARTERS. Is this also correct? I can't wait to see you guys, and eat some good shrimp.

BTW, I purchased some baby shrimp from US Foods. It came deveined, peeled, and cooked, IQF, but when it thawed it tasted like it had been flavored with catfish entrails. I mean the flavor was overwhelmingly fishy. Usually my baby shrimp are a little sweeter and have a slightly bland flavor if anything. Nothing is as good as fresh, but this stuff was awful. Anyone out there have a similar experience with their IQf shrimp?

Alan,

I'd get tickets before the event - we are hoping to be sold-out before then. The info on how/where to get tickets is posted on the "Press Release" Thread I posted today. If you are buying on-line, don't try until tomorrow when the weblink is supposed to be up.

Okay folks, the gauntlet has been thrown down...I just got a call from Chris Howerton: he sold 14 tickets to customers the first night!

The rest of you should be getting tickets over the weekend- who's up to beating Chris/Corbett's with ticket sales?
