There is enough information in this thread now for anyone interested to form their own opinion. I'm ready to say Well Met, and call it a day.

If you wish to converse further, we can do it out of the glare if you like. I tired to share some of my personal information, as I thought it might help you understand where I was coming from. And it seemed unfair to me that you are much more "out there" than I am. Sadly, I still don't think we connected. Such is life I suppose.

I am really glad that you removed your previous reply in this spot. I had to step away to consider my response. This is a much better ending.

Cheers.

EDIT:
Oops. I see that the post that I thought you had deleted is still there. I still like this ending better, so I'm letting it stand.

Okay, I'll give in if Robin proclaims this thread as the Fancy Farm of food/politics in Louisville! :)

Done!

(I stay well away from Fancy Farm, and I'm trying to apply the same policy to this thread ... )

Nope. Just having a little fun.

In the great overall scheme of things, I would probably give it a B-minus or maybe a C because it was not really 100 percent on topic. But it was ... interesting. I guess the key is that Roger more or less willingly played along. A thread about Roger without Roger's participation would have been problematical for me.

On the whole, I'd just as soon have us talk about food and drink that get into meta discussions about how we talk about food and drink.

But I don't see any real harm here.

Shall we talk about food and drink now?

I was hoping for a better conclusion, so I do have mixed feelings about it now. Clarity will be my only reward for this one. Thanks for the light hand though.

We don't seem to be able to discuss pizza, beer, or chicken sandwiches without getting into politics. I'm not sure there's much hope. :)

"I recall the time when a Bank Street Brewhouse customer asked one of our servers to explain my political beliefs in light of the red stars on the shiny new brewing equipment.

Our man on the floor made a game effort to interpret these complex threads of geopolitics, economics and the art of brewing, and to phrase them in a snappy sentence that is reproducible on a bumper sticker for a Lexus, and yet the customer remained unimpressed, writing this on his charge card receipt:

“Tell your Commie boss to share the wealth.”

So, my question would be, "What is the point of the red stars on the brewing equipment?"

Just trying to rile up the silly war vets, Cuban ex-pats, and overly-sensitive Cambodians who might be out for the evening?

What about swastikas on the brewing equipment, not because you are a Nazi, but only to determine which of your Jewish clientele was too uptight to fit into the NABC scene?

While fascism and communism are obviously different, they both are based upon relinquishing individualism and squelching diversity. How does that fit into your geopolitical belief system and how it relates to brewing beer?

For what it's worth, before becoming acquainted with this board, I dined in the red room and was not offended. My calzone was very solid and the spinach kase was delicious.

Underlining my own lack of morals, despite my issues with NABC, I continue to buy hoptimuses(Hoptimi?) and frequently order Electors when out to dinner.

The answer comes from the back of one of my business cards: "Heineken stole the (red star) from the Bolsheviks. We're stealing it back."

Roger never said that, but Roger will say this: It could have been much worse, because it could have been Molson Canadian Light.
