This quote is from the program handed out at the Naturalization Ceremony for 371 new Americans today at Whitney Hall. It seemed appropriate to post here:

‎"You who been born in America, I wish I could make you understand what it is like not to be an American not to have been an American all your life and then suddenly with the words of a man in flowing robes to be one, for that moment and forever after. One moment you belong with your fathers to a million dead yesterdays the next you belong with America to a million unborn tomorrows." - George Magar Mardikian
"I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian" -Erma Bombeck

I could be mistaken, but it seems to me that the point that Michael was trying to make was that there's nothing that compares w/in the "major media" (to quote him). At the end of the day, The Onion is a website & Fox News is a cable television channel. That's a HUGE distinction. If people still read newspapers like they did before television then I suspect that we wouldn't be having this argument. I think it's quite easy for most people to agree that there's certainly no equivalent to Fox News w/in the arena of cable television.

I would also like to add that you're being just as condescending as Michael by calling him "predictable" (w/o even mentioning YOUR tone). Using such a term asserts that your a chess master (intelligent) & that he's a novice (ignorant) before even bothering to tackle to substance of his argument.

NIce.

I'm just not ready to sign off major print media as irrelevant. Or to say that the burgeoning 'new media' genre is the same. Is balance achieved within political discourse, with regards to the fringes? Maybe not, in a restaurant bar and my attitude is still 'Food Network.'. Yet, overall, I think we all will go to the source of information that suits our own views.

Yes, the condescending tone. I'm glad you caught that. I was talking trash to pull out his best position. For this goal, should I 'take the high-road' and maybe risk 'shaming him.' Or should I choose words that inspire a sense of competitiveness? Yes, it is a game a chess, to me, yet one that leads to a greater understanding for myself and maybe others.

If you will also note: I used the same tones as him in both of our comments. The first, aggressive. The second, magnanimous. A sort of 'equal and opposite force' play, I suppose...

I think it's also important to realize that chess is a game. You stand up from the table, shake hands with the opponent and walk away with a greater respect for that individual. The second it becomes a bitter, 'us vs. them' affair, it loses perspective and value.

EDIT: We are all familly here and should feel free to speak our minds. We go into these convesations with this idea, we should walk out of them with the same. I am not a fan, at all, of the sense that people can hurt themselves by posting what they think. It produces a lethargy that hurts the whole. So shine on, you crazy diamonds!

Speaking of which, you were given the last word.

Good Game.

P.S. You do know that this began with your statement 'I find it laughable (my opinion)' don't you?

After 117 posts I think this "dead horse" has been beat enough. Didn't your mothers tell you not to discuss politics or religion. I have seen so much hate from this thread. There has got to be something to discuss other than if you are offended by Fox or CNN. It looks like this thread is making enemies from the statements. I'm all for a friendly debate, however this has gotten out of hand. Let it go. Just an opinion.
