What's the Best Thing YOU Ever Ate - Snack Attack

by Steve P » Tue Feb 02, 2010 3:10 pm

So why should Food-Competition-Network celebrities have all the fun ? Here we go..."Snack Attack" version...what's the best thing YOU ever ate ? I'll start.

Buffalo Wings at the original Anchor Bar, Buffalo NY - in the early 80's. Little pieces of fried and drippy goodness. I've certainly had an opportunity to enjoy better wings since then but no "snack" experience has ever been so life changing. I can't imagine life without Buffalo Wings.

Nachos at Jack's Lounge
Spinach Kase at Richo's

are the best "snack" type foods I have ever had.

Speaking of wings, periodically I have to make a meal out of the special BBQ wings at Rootie's on Westport Rd.

Nachos and a cold beer on a muggy, buggy summer evening at an outdoor cafe in Maine. Best nachos ever.

-I once took some leftover beef stew, put it in some crusty bread and ate it like a sandwich then thought I was going to pass out from awesome.
-Blackened chicken won tons from the Back Door Lounge
-Chicken wings from Cunningham's Creekside
-Chorizo, short ribs, and the provaleta from Palermo
-Ice cold beer, fresh crawfish, steamed shrimps, and super fresh oysters in some dive bar in New Orleans... OMG.
-Shrimp and Lettuce rolls from VK or Cafe Mimosa.
-The Tortilla Espaniola from De La Torres
-This summer I brought back a bag of boiled peanuts from Georgia and sat out back of the Nachbar eating them with an almost frozen PBR and had to do a dance it was so good.
-Venison jerky...

Can you tell I haven't had lunch yet???

The tiniest little octopi dripping with olive oil and garlic at a little tapas bar I'm Barcelona.

The store made garlic beef jerky from the butcher in Moab, Utah. After a four hour bike ride. But I might have been delirious.

Bi Rite creamery ice cream.

Fried cuttlefish from a street vendor at the Temple Street Night Market in Hong Kong after an extremely frantic day of sightseeing

How's that for a lot of prepositions?

6 other people and I split 200 Crawfish in a dive outside of Slidell, LA. First time I'd ever tried them...yea. That probably ranks the best.

Joseph M, my best snack is from Hong Kong too...

What my wife, an HK native, refered to as "beef jerky." Flame roasted, sweet spicy and salty, thin slices of pork...and beef, etc.

I'm still contemplating my best snack, but I can definitely tell you my worst.

After a 20ish hour plane ride to New Zealand, our bus driver (who we stopped trusting for food recommendations shortly hereafter) stopped at this diner/truck stop on the way to our hotels.

I had the misfortune of trying an awful British culinary invention known as "fried lasagna." It really didn't resemble lasagna so much as a soggy, greasy, breaded pile of ground beef and thin sauce that had been deep fried and kept under a heat lamp. There was some sausage dish that was equally disgusting. At that point I was longing for the airplane food.

Aside from Paul's post why does everything taste sooo much better when you are hungry?

Mine...truly salsa and chips....my own kitchen.

Quite possibly, simple bread and cheese, with a belgian beer on the side.

It was in a small village in Belgium, and my brother and I had literally walked from France into Belgium, and found a wonderful little shop, local crusty bread, probably local cheese, and fairly local beer. After a several mile walk, it all tasted oh so good.
