PR: Boombozz/Hurstbourne to switch to burgers

by Robin Garr » Thu Jan 07, 2010 10:08 am

This news release reveals the "new concept" going in to the former Boombozz Pizza and Vino on Hurstbourne near Westport after the latter moves down to Westport Village to become the second Boomboz Taphouse ...

Tony Palombino, the creator of Boombozz Famous Pizza, is bringing a “better burger” concept to the Louisville market.

BoomBurger will open in April. The store will be located at 2813 N. Hurstbourne Parkway which is currently occupied by Tony Boombozz Pizza & Vino which recently announced it will relocate to Westport Village as a Boombozz Pizza & Taphouse.

BoomBurger, will be a fast-casual, “better burger” restaurant, offering area residents and businesses a new and convenient quality dining option. It will feature a method of cooking dubbed “The Boom Press ”, which utilizes a special tool used to create the perfect burger. BoomBurgers will start with a one-third or half-pound ball of 100-percent Angus beef—fresh, not frozen—seared and seasoned on a flat grill. Served on a butter-toasted artisan bun and topped with a selection of real cheeses, the freshest produce and top-quality condiments.

The restaurant will also serve delicious BoomBoom chicken, Boomdogs and Boomsalads, with sides like fried pickles and hand-cut fries and onion rings. Diners will also enjoy Hand–dipped Blue-Bunny shakes, beer and wine with their meal.

The management team hopes to extend Boombozz’s reputation for award-winning food and service to BoomBurger. “I am thrilled to introduce BoomBurger to Louisville,” says BoomBurger Founder Tony Palombino. “I can’t wait to bring BoomBurger to our community, where we will strive to become Louisville’s better burger place.”

Yeah...I'm betting Chuck and all the folks (right next door) at Turkey Joe's (another true L'ville independent) are just thrilled to death with this news. "Boom-Boom out go the lights"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_store

"A restaurant chain is a set of related restaurants with the same name in many different locations that are either under shared corporate ownership (e.g., In-N-Out Burgers in the U.S.) or franchising agreements. Typically, the restaurants within a chain are built to a standard format and offer a standard menu."

I don't think Boombozz is any of these.

justin, i'm confused, are you saying in order to be classified as a chain, they can't be all in one city, therefore being in different states?
according to this statement, boombooz would qualify as a chain. (5) in all including the new tap house on westport.
from what i heard in the local food industry circles. his plans now to go into franchising and branch out of state. :)

I just don't like putting a local business that is doing well and expanding into the same category as O'Charles, Taco Bell, Olive Garden, ect. If Tony "sells out" and goes into the franchise business then I'll put him right there in the chain group. I don't think it is out of the question for an owner/operator to run the few locations of Boombozz currently in Louisville and not be considered a chain. None of the Boombozz locations fit into the standardized chain look, they are all different, even different menus. The term chain just has negative connotations that Boombozz doesn't deserve.

All I know is that we have over 80 employees who have jobs, and we are paying our taxes and doing our part to help support this community. So you can "tag" us however you see fit. Regardless of our size or where we expand to, we will never, NEVER, compromise our standards and quality. I hope to see in one our our restaurants, wherever they are located :D

Chain arguements aside, I guess I'll say I'm not exactly thrilled with the burger concept. Mainly because I just can't imagine driving out of my way for a burger - excellant pizza is another story entirely.

Best of luck with the new venture.

Oh my aching waistline! That is just next door to where I sit on my butt, and get a pedicure.

Which by the way, there are two nail places just yards from each other there, and I think that Turkey Joe's has a loyal enough following to hold their own.

Good luck to all!

Turkey Joe's makes a great burger (my daughter's favorite!) and Chef Chuck is terrific. TJ's menu is very diverse and there seems to be a loyal, stable following.

THANK YOU! I wish people would get it into their heads being a chain/local means squat until one steps into the store and sees for themselves what it's all about...

Oh, yes. Good luck!

now just for the sake of discussion. i disagree. first off people tend to be hung up because boombozz is local. look at papa john's he started off local, he became a chain.
i hate to break it to you justin, but that is where boombozz is heading. this has nothing to to with tony. it could be joe smoe. franchising has already started with boomboz. i know this to be a fact. ( yes tony is still part of it and yes i like his food.)
it just seems that people tend to get blinded because he is a local.

well get ready for it to be classified as a chain... :)

Papa John's is worldwide and shit pizza.

I can't speak for what Boombozz will become, but currently it is local and great pizza. I'm sure Papa thought he could control the quality even with the worldwide expanison but it hasn't happened. I won't judge Boombozz until I can see a change.

Maybe someday he'll open a veggie joint! But in the meantime, 100% support from me.
