100 Best Louisville Restaurants

by Brian Curl » Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:28 am

Surprisingly, this has a lot of the great restaurants here in town listed. Put is this just a vote, I'm not familiar with this site, just ran across it. It would be interesting to have a vote on the 100 best on here though to see how a hotbytes list would compare.

I know of Urbanspoon as an iPhone applet. It appears to be another national company (like Yelp, maybe) trying to establish the appearance of a local presence by popularizing lists like this in the hope of getting local restaurants involved. Can't really evaluate it further.

Is this in rank order or just the top 100?

Robin,

Am I to understand all these reviews , including rankings, are resulted from people and not critics?

Because critics are not people, right?

This looks like an arbitrary list designed more to phish for advertisers for their website than anything else. I bet if you were to go back and look up each place you'd find that each one of them had either a sizable ad in the local daily, the phonebook, LEO or a billboard. I seriously doubt that Home Run Burgers and Fries could honestly beat out Le Relais.
Or maybe I'm off base with that.

Kyle, I think critics try to emulate people. ;)

My guess, though, is that Carla is on target. The Website likely surfs the Web and print media seeking published reviews and restaurant advertisements to compile a list for every city it covers, then solicits advertising from the restaurants it mentions.

I reserve my trust for this forum on honest ranking. Everyone else seems to have too much to lose and an edge to gain (except the LEO and Louisville mag, which have public tallies, but of course there's always ballot stuffers) when referencing Louisville favorites. Especially to consider this article prefaces with, "are you one of these owners?" Please... so transparent. The disturbing part is that it's not transparent to everyone. *itchy itch*

I studied this list carefully before posting. Obviously, there are many that would be in any "top 100" but also obviously the order doesn't look rank order.

But, I thought it would be neat if there were a way to come up with a somewhat accurate "top 100". Maybe not a rank order per say, but an alphabetical list maybe of the 100 best spots in town.

Is there any way it could be done?
