Louisville's gastrointestinal challenge

by Rob Summers » Tue Nov 17, 2009 2:08 pm

Due to the wonder of Netflix now streaming to my PS3, I watched season 1 of the travel channel's "Man v. Food"

and it made me realize, I'm not aware of any such challenge dish of legend here in Louisville. Do we have one? if not, why not?
The 'net is a waste of time, and that's exactly what's right about it.

If memory serves, doesn't Genny's Diner have such a challenge?

Not a local place, but BW3's has a wing challenge.

Doesn't O'Sheas have a 4lb burger with another 1/2 lb of bacon on it?

BW3's Nuke Wings are hot, but they don't impress me. All you can taste is hot. No flavor.

The popularity of this show just goes to prove what a problem we have in this country with obesity connected with gluttony.

When my cafe was open we did 3 HUGE pancakes. If you could eat all three, your entire breakfast was free! Several tried, all failed!

I disagree that this has anything to do with gluttony vs obesity. Considering that some of the challenges covered in the first season were places where the challenge had been existing for 20 years or more.

1 of the locations ive eaten at that being quaker steak and lube, and I had 1 of their atomic wings. (their challenge is 6 wings in 1 minute at atomic level)

needless to say one wing went down and was immediately rejected.

My thinking on the subject, is that if such a challenge is all it takes to draw the travel channel to town, it would certainly be worth a shot.

I used to watch this show. I watched six episodes I think. However, in the end I became disgusted with the sheer volume of food in the challenge. There was one called the kitchen sink challenge. He ate a Sundae which was basically served in a sink. A two gallon sundae with 8 soft ball size scoops of ice cream, copious scoops of nuts, toppings and whipped cream. It looked disgusting, and needless to say he didn't finish it. In fact, he had to stop and eat french fries half way through. Then there was the sandwich with cheese stix, onion rings, cheese sauce, cheese, burgers, ham onions, tomatoes. It was just a gigantic mess of food. The hot challenges are just stupid as well. There was one episode where he wasn't allowed to wipe his face. His chin was burning from the spices, his eyes were watering and he looked absolutely terrible. Where is the fun in eating food so hot that to prepare it, gloves have to be worn to prevent burns. How can that not do damage to your stomach and throat? Sorry, just don't get it.

At A.J.'s in Georgetown, the biggest flurry we do is 20oz. Several people have asked for a jumbo flurry, but I won't do it. I don't think it is either healthy or necessary to have 2lbs of ice cream and candy in one serving. The people who ask for it are generally in the 300lb plus range. Now, I wonder why that is?

I do like Adam though.

Anyone who could choke down a dozen of BW3's wings ought to be declared an automatic "winner" (or loser as it may be).

I feel the exact same way. The show up until the "challenge" is ok, but the giant portions make me sick. Watching him eat 15 DOZEN raw oysters once had to be the worst. I couldn't watch anymore. After a while it doesn't look like he even enjoys it... Not for me.
