Good place for Office Christmas Lunch/party

by Charles W. » Mon Nov 16, 2009 4:53 pm

It's that time again. The past couple of years we've had it catered at a colleague's house. This year we're doing a restaurant or the like.

Our particulars:
1) 20 folks or so
2) from 12-3. Eat for first half--party/gift exchange for second half
3) A number of non-adventurous eaters, so ethnic/spicy/anything remotely exotic food not an option.
4) Need vegetarian options
5) Either December 17 or 18
6) Modest, but not bargain basement cost--not a good year to blow out the budget

Ideas? Thanks.

Brownings/Parkplace - Call Paula Barmore 515-0174 who is a frequent poster on here. I am sure they will try to help you out.

Second a call to Paula, but given your criteria, a call to the Bristol would also be a good idea. Plenty of private space and private-party experience at both Main Street and Bardstown Road. (And the others too, I'm sure.)

For a fancy experience, Proof on Main?

Charles not sure if we (Impellizzeri's) would fit the target, non ethnic? We could give you either restaurant to yourselves on the 17th. We don't open until 4pm. Full bar, order off the menu, or buffet style, which ever would work. Just let me know.

Da**...Ya'll throw a weak Christmas party. No spicy food ? Vegetation options ? Gift exchange ? What the hell ever happened to REAL office parties ?...You know, the one where guy down the hall ends up wearing the lampshade, the girls from accounting get caught in the bosses office...with the lights out, the boss gives everyone a gift wrapped bottle of booze and they are all open before the parties over, everyone pigs out on average food that the company paid wayyyyyy to much money for. <sigh> Well at least you work for a company that let's you call it a Christmas party as opposed to a "Holiday" party, so there IS hope. :? :D

Steve
You just described one of my favorite Tracy Hepburn movies, "Desk Set" 1957. I do believe the parties you speak of died out the next year.

Downtown Cunninghams has smaller private rooms that could be great for this purpose

What the hell ever happened to REAL office parties ?.

It's funny you mention it. I know several lawyer friends who love to have a great time at these parties and people would think they were to blame for the demise of the Holiday Tradition. Honestly? It's the McDonald's Coffee Lady and People who slip at Wal-Mart that screwed it all up for the rest of us.

The private dining room at Lilly's is available and would work for you. Modest prices a la carte, or the 3 course Prix Fixe ($15) may be useful. Take a look at our menus: http://www.lillyslapeche.com

Studio's Grille & Pub in New Albany would fit the bill. You can even have privacy outdoor under the tent with the heaters going! We have a great variety on our menu and can even make our own veggie burgers to go along with the hummus and veggies that we serve. Let us know! you can call 812-590-3171 and make your reserv. any time!
Thanks

The RiVue on top of the Galt House is doing special Christmas lunches for larger groups Wednesday-Friday during December. I believe it is a set price per person with a prime rib carving station.

Thanks for all the replies. The executive decision was made by my administrative assistant--so we're haded to Olivias' on Goss.

That sounds just like my boyfriend's company Christmas Parties! Last year one of his co workers was working a pole on the Star of Louisville while wearing a construction hat (no idea why he had the hat, they aren't a construction company). Everybody gets so drunk the boss gets everyone a hotel room! It's usually a ridiculous evening!
