Thanks to Steve P and Ed V

by GaryF » Sun Nov 15, 2009 6:51 pm

Thank you both for putting together such a wonderful get together today. It was so good to see old LHB friends and to meet some new ones. It was a delightful afternoon.
Oh- and the food was delicious, it's a shame I didn't leave room for dessert, buy then again given my girth perhaps it is a good thing after all.
It looks like Ky Harvest made out very well too- it was a fine idea.
I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
And to those who called in sick- get well soon.
Paul- congrats.

I also wanted to thank Steve and Ed. My family had a wonderful time. It was a great way to spend Sunday afternoon.

It was nice to finally put faces to names. Everyone was very nice, a good group of people to spend some time with.

Of course, the food was great. The ribs were awesome, the baked beans were also very good, i could go on..... But, my favorite thing was the stuffed cabbage. I had never had it before and it was just awesome......

Again, I really appreciate that this was put together.

Big thanks as well to Steve and Ed as well as everyone else that helped make it such a success. I had a great time seeing everyone and once again, all y'all are fantastic cooks!

Yes, indeed. Thank you, thank you, thank you Steve and Ed for orchestrating such an enjoyable afternoon.

I was thrilled to see many of my LBH friends again as well as to meet Dan's and Steve R.'s wives. Becky M., I am so glad to have a face to put with your name. I hope we showed Steve P.'s mom that Louisville is a welcoming place and that she will, indeed, move here. Most of all, however, I am glad that we were able to assist Kentucky Harvest.

Since I came from one luncheon and left to prepare an evening meal for company at my home, I am unable to speak to the taste of the food, but it smelled devine and Stephen's pepper infused Dumante/Makers was heaven inspired.

I'm so dissapointed to have missed the early crowd but 1oo% delighted with those I did get to visit with. I had a mishap of phone loss and getting lost, but I made it.What a great time - I love you people. And Gary, your dishes were amazing. I'd really love to get your recipe for the stuffing or whatever that was. Mwaw, xoxo.

Whoa !!! What a awesome afternoon...Great friends, great food, great cause.

Just kinda FYI, not sure if this is the "final" count or not but we raised at least $250 in cash contributions as well as an entire SUV full of food. The people from KY Harvest were very grateful.

Thank you to Selena's, Captains Quarters and Westport General Store for your kind donations. The raffle was very successful and certainly helped the cause. Thank you all so very much.

Another thank you to the folks at Fresh Market for their generous donation of non-perishable food.

And finally thanks to all who attended...it was a GREAT time. Lets do it again next year.

Echoing Steve's sentiments it was great to see everyone and thank you all for your generous contributions and outstanding chow! Special thanks to Dan Thomas for the professional rig to keep our food hot. We have a great online community here and it was gratifying to see us rally around a noble cause.

Thanks again and hope to see all of you soon!

Jackie- sorry I missed you- I had to get my friend to work. :(
You can find the recipe for the Leek Bread Pudding (or stuffing as we call it) in the NYTimes 2 Wed. ago. It is from Thomas Keller's new book, "Ad Hoc at Home".
I may have tweaked it just a bit.

Gary, thank you thank you thank you for putting a name to it. I know what I'm bringing to Thanksgiving. I would assume you would throw garlic in the title if you were to give it a new name? Unbelievable, the star dish for me next to your fresh figs wrapped in proscuitto. I almost didn't try them until somebody told me what they were! I'd ask for recipe as well, but I think I already get it. And then there was Marsha's corn, holy cripes. I really want that recipe, too. I come from a line of beer lovers and my fam would love that at thanksgiving, too. Marsha??? Was there beer in that dish?

You got it Jackie- I threw in some roasted garlic- and I lightened up the custard mixture just a little, not quite so much heavy cream. Thanks for the compliments.

It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Colleen enjoyed herself as well. It was all good, from the food to the conversation. And as always, it's nice to meet a few new faces to go with the names you see so often on this forum.
Some of my personal faves as far as the food goes, Gary's stuffed figs and savory bread pudding were both off the chain. Jackie's salad was great as well. I only wish that I wasn't so stuffed by the time it and she arrived so I could have enjoyed more of it. Marsha's Corn, Ed's Beef Borginie was really good and kind of reminded me of a French version of South Carolina style BBQ hash. Steve's smoked meat contributions were tasty as well. But I think my favorite dish were the beans...I don't know who made them but they were very, very good.
I also enjoyed Steve R's Peanut Butter Cookies and Mark B's Pineapple Bread Pudding.
In the richness category, Suzi's Chicken Casserole was very good but very rich and who wever made the gooey brownies with a touch of mint in the ganache those were very good but very rich as well. I tried to try everything but I only had so much room :D
I'm looking forward to the next one for sure. Great idea Steve and Ed!!!!! Thanks for the leg work on this one! Looking forward to seeing some more pictures.

Piling on, thanks and praise to Steve and Ed, and a great ol' time it was. I'm sorry Mary and I didn't have more time to spend ... our visit was truncated on both ends, and who said Sunday was supposed to be a day of rest? But I'm glad we were there, and it was good to see both old and new friends and enjoy all that great food and Stephen's wacky drink samples. ;)

Just as an update...The total amount of cash raised for KY Harvest was $350...this in addition to all the food collected. To all those who participated, YOU are the ones who should be thanked.
