Beer for Breakfast

by David R. Pierce » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:59 am

FOX in the Morning's Kieth Kaiser will be kicking off his new "Manufacturing Monday's" at NABC's Bank Street Brewhouse this Monday morning. Please join us from 7:00-9:AM for a beer breakfast concocted by BSB Brewer (and chef in his own right) Jesse Williams. Using Roger Baylor's recent LEO Mug Shots: Beer for breakfast article as inspiration, Jesse will be creating breakfast goodies cooked and paired with beer while Kieth and I brew a batch of NABC's Community Dark. I will post Jesse's menu when it is available. I'll be making Community Dark milk shakes with malt extract pulled from our mash-tun. More details here: The Potable Curmudgeon

I'm not sure what beer you'd pair with Cheerio's. Maybe a nice Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse with its trademark bananna after taste?

Personally, I like my CoCo Crispies paired with NABC's 15B porter. There is a perfect balance of coffee & chocolate of the porter and the sweet chocolate of the cereal.

I just received a PM from Mr. Crow of DCE. It appears we have some coffee. Who's coming? We've had a bunch of RSVP's on our FB site and need a head count. I can't wait!

A very special thank you to all of you that showed up to drink/eat beer for breakfast. We had around 30 people at the peak. Chef Jesse put out an awesome spread that was a testament to how versatile beer is in cuisine. Thanks again to Sondra Powell of Red Hot Roasters and Matthew "Crow" Landan of derby City Espresso for providing coffee. Talks are underway to repeat the concept (minus the TV crew) on a seasonal basis.

As the boss says; You can't drink all day if you don't start early. :!:

Compliments to the Chef. Everything was delicious. If he decides he's not into the whole brewing thing, I think he has another skill set to fall back on.
And Dave - Kudos on the malted milk. That was incredible. I'm now inspired to keep some wort in the fridge so I can whip one up when needed.

This could be a whole new revenue stream on brew days: Queue left for progressive pints, right for malteds.

Is there any beer for breakfast events being planned for a weekend, so us working stiffs can attend?

Absolutely, but don't ask me when. This concept is evolving, and my guess is it would be ideal for a Saturday morning (can't serve beer early enough on Sunday).

Stay tuned.
