Hotbytes Potluck 11/15 - Directions and Last Minute Stuff

by Steve P » Wed Nov 11, 2009 1:26 pm

Hi All,

Just starting a new thread for last minute comments and pot luck planning.

Before going anywhere with this I wanted to emphasize once more that this event is open to all Forumbyters, their families and their friends. If you've never been able to attend one of the "off lines" or if you are relatively new to the forum, this is a perfect time to join in the fun. It's going to be casual, it's going to be fun and best of all it's as free as you want it to be. Do come.

OK, as a memory jogger...The Pot Luck will be held this Sunday Nov. 15th from 1pm until 6pm at The Cardinal Harbour Pavilion located off Rt. 42 in Oldham Co (just outside of Goshen). Here is the link for the directions. If for some reason the link doesn't work for you please PM Ed or myself for your personally prepared directions.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 0.004657,0

The beneficiary of this event is Kentucky Harvest and while there is no cost to attend the pot luck there will be three opportunities donate to Kentucky Harvest.

You are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items (large or small) to the event. Kentucky Harvest will be providing a vehicle to transport these donations. The vehicle is slated to arrive at approx 5pm.

Three fine establishments; Selena's, Westport General Store and Captains Quarters have donated gift cards which we will be raffling. The raffle will be $1 a "chance" and we'll be pulling the names of the three lucky winners sometime prior to the KY Harvest vehicle arriving (note: At the end of the raffle, Ed and I will count the proceeds and exchange the cash for my personal check to KY Harvest - No sense having cash floating around)

For those of you that wish to donate money. We will have a locked box located next to the raffle drawing for this purpose. If you wish to make a monetary donation PLEASE do so in the form of a personal check. Any donations made by check will not be made public...We will simply turn over the entire contents to the folks from KY harvest.. (note: At some point KY Harvest may provide us with a total dollar amount of what we donate).

As mentioned the pot luck runs from 1pm to 6pm. We have not seen any reason to etch anything in stone but for your planning purposes you can kind of figure it will probably go something like this:

1pm to 2:30pm - Social hour, set up, final prep, etc.

2:30pm to 5pm - Chow down

5pm to 6pm - More socializing, pick raffle winners, CLEAN UP.

Again, this is just kind of a rough guesstimate on how things will play out. OK...That's it. Let's rock.

Brad,

You will be missed...We'll look forward to seeing you at the next off line.

BTW, "hitting and running" is just fine for this event...Anyone who is pressed for time can stick their nose in the door, say "hi how are ya", enjoy some good food and then hit the ground running. It goes from 1 to 6pm but anyone who can spare just an hour or two is more than welcome. Like I said in previous posts, we'll probably start serving about 2 or 2:30pm.

Yeah, I'm afraid Mary and I fall into that category ... we're involved in hosting a great speaker, Sara Miles, at St. Matthew's in the morning and again in the evening, so we're going to have to "run through" in the in-betweens. We'll bring a KY Harvest donation, though, and I'll bet we can come up with some kind of a dessert.

This has been on my brain's backburner, but I'm hoping to stop in - sounds like a great event. I haven't had the time to work my way through the "who's bringing what" thread. Is there anyway to provide a quick list of anything still needed/desired? Salsa's my go-to potluck offering, but I'm not feeling too good about local November tomatoes...
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

If a hard frost continues to hold off, you might be surprised. Mary found a ripe, red Italian heirloom in the garden this morning, and we celebrated with a Veteran's Day BLT.

I posted that Tom and I were in...but I may have posted in the wrong string. Regardless, what do you need me to bring - I see lots of sides and such...what would you prefer I bring - perhaps a dessert or a main?

I should be in there as well, and Sarah will probably be with me. We'll be bringing some dessert.

Speaking from belowdecks, Melissa, it's cooks choice on what you would like to bring. I think we need something in the middle between mains & desserts but whatever you're comfortable with. Glad you both can attend.
